quote:

A St. Charles man has one heck of a big fish story to tell after a day out on the Mississippi River.

Wade Kaminski didn't just land any catfish on Friday. He reeled in a 112-pound, approximately 5-foot-long monster Blue Catfish.

“I initially thought I got into a snag," Kaminski said. "I told my friend who was with me, 'I’m either snagged or I’ve got a monster'.”

It turned out to be the monster.

quote:

The angler said the Blue Catfish appeared to be female and had already spawned. So it likely weighed even more a few weeks ago.

The Missouri state record for a Blue Catfish is 130 pounds.

Kaminski released his prize catch back into the Mississippi River, so future fishermen will have the chance to experience the thrill he did.

That's one big catfish, that'll be something he'll remember for sure. Can't imagine what the gut would've looked like on it before it spawned either, would've been huge.

The people who do the noodling are crazy. I’m not sticking my hands down there like that. And that little girl would get drowned by that catfish there if she didn’t have a guy right next to her to pull her up. frick all that noodling shite.

I've got an old uncle that does it a bit differently. He uses a piece of PVC pipe with a rope ran down through it, to a piece of Styrofoam and a big treble hook. He pulls the Styrofoam and hook snug to the end of the pipe, and runs it up under big rocks and old stumps and washed out places under boat ramps. The catfish snaps at the Styrofoam and he snags 'em then drags 'em out.

We hand grab pretty regular. Biggest one we’ve caught was 55. Yeah that fish would take 2 grown men to throw in the boat
