That is one I know of. Those are super nice, my BIL has one, maybe not a z3 but it is a Swarovski and it is awesome. I'll probably end up with the vx3hd or 5hd. Thanks for all the input baws. I appreciate it.

Vortex is a brand I was unfamiliar with

Vortex is an American-owned company which sells riflescopes that have been manufactured overseas.

the Viper & Diamondback optics are made in Philippines and okay quality
Crossfire scopes are produced in China - you get what you pay for
Razor HD scopes are manufactured in Japan; their best glass which comes at a cost

Hard to beat a Leupold for the money which are made in the USA and their optics have never let me down

Meopta is worth looking into as they use German Schott glass for their optics

Take a look at the Trijicon Credo 2.5-15-42. Just put one on a new Savage. Glass is comparable to VX5 leupold and has the SCR illuminated reticle. You can get from Europtic for $844 plus tax

Check out Tract Optics. And if you're former military you get a discount.

I’d suggest a vx3hd 3.5-10x50. Looks like they’re about $600. I have the vx5hd 3-15x56 but that’s a little over $1000. I love my scope though. The CDS (custom dial system) really is awesome. You get a free dial when you buy the scope and any dial after is $80. Once you have it dialed in, the numbers on the dial are 1,2,3,4,etc and correspond to 100,200,300… and so on. The zero lock is solid as a rock so don’t worry about bumping it to a different yardage on accident. I killed one on a pipeline a couple years ago at almost 400. Ranged it, dialed the scope to 4 and held dead on. Typically my shots are close though so I lock it at the zero which is 100 yards and don’t worry about dialing it.

How big do you need to make your boxstand windows to get that 56mm out there?

I did shoot that one on the pipeline out of a box stand when I joined that club a couple years ago. The windows were big lol
But that was the only year I haven’t hunted public land. So it’s climbers or the ground for me. 56mm isn’t necessary, and I know that, but it’s what I wanted and could afford so why not? I also have a 56mm scope on my 35 whelen lol

Whatever makes you comfortable

44mm is the perfect size for me. Clear and sits low on the rifle

You didn't give enough info.

Rifle? Caliber? Distance? Location?

Why the $1000 price point?

Seems like Maven has come out with some new lower priced options. Just an FYI.

Maven CRS.1 and CRS.2

The more knobs, more complicated the reticle, the better the glass. It's a war again the deers.

Thanks for all the ideas. I'm torn on a tikka, Weatherby vanguard, or the B14 in .308. I love the .270 round but I've heard everyone heard complaining about nearly everything but .308 being hard to find. Elevated box stands in CenLa and NorLa, I am typically not shooting super far, but there are a few pipeline stands that are far (potentially 400 plus yards). The leupold dialing system sounds pretty awesome.

I wouldn't base my purchase on this so much if you aren't shooting hundreds of rounds

Get a caliber you're comfortable with at some distances.

20+ rounds to break in the barrel

5-10 MAX to sight it in

1 per deer afterwards

That being said, if you want to shoot 400 you need to practice that. I'd go VX-5HD 3-15x44 for $950

Plus 1 on the Meopta. 1 heck of a lot of features for a great price. European quality for a fair price. Why wouldn't you buy an optic from a company known for the quality of their glass and that sells glass to other companies? I have both an Optika5 and 6 scopes, love 'em. Definitely worth the $.

Leupold has the under $1000 dollar market wrapped up in quality. there isnt a close second here. Vortex makes some nice stuff but shop glass is hard to beat. No other maker under $1000 is running shop glass besides Leupold and makybe a cople of Stiener models.

Solid advice I am still hunting with rounds from 20 yrs ago in my 270
Price marked 19.95 for a 20 round box of ballistic silver tips. Haven’t killed enough animals with the gun to burn through the original few boxes I bought
