Been stung several times by blue cat and a few times by hardheads. They both hurt but the hardhead is definitely worse.
However, they don't hold a candle to a stingray. By far the worst pain I've ever experienced.

I always heard that hardhead stings were bad but y’all got me freaked out now. I’ll be damned if I’m getting stung

Had one go through my foot as a 6 year old. Unbearable pain. Then, my lovely wife, threw one into the boat a few years ago. And by "in the boat," I mean into my back as she pulled it in. She hasnt been fishing with me since.

I've been stuck several times but not as bad as that looks. I saw a guy on a pier kick one when I was about 12 or 13. He had on flip flops and he stuck it right in the end of his big toe. Heard head was probably a pound of better . It flipped until it broke the barb off in his toe...

Got hit by a galftop 2 weekends ago and my finger is still not back to normal. SOB went in about a half inch from my finger nail and now my finger nail is black and full of blood. Treated the puncture wound correctly for a few days And it’s fine, but I’m definitely gonna lose my fingernail. Finger was on FIRE for a few hrs and bleeding pretty bad but I wrapped it up and continued catching specks.

You get extra man points if you wrapped it up in duct tape.

I got stuck in the fatty part of the hand between the thumb and index finger. Swole up real nice and had some wonderful seepege for a day. Not a pleasurable experience.

For me the smaller the hardhead the more likely I am getting stung.

Its a different type of pain, that's for sure. And yeah it does hurt instantly
So true. It’s like instant pressure building inside the puncture. Weird.

I let one get away from me and get me on my big toe. It felt like I’d dropped a 10 pound hammer on it. Hurt like none other that I’ve felt.
I went to the doctor the next day for antibiotics (Mobile Bay), and we decided x-rays weren’t necessary because I didn’t feel anything in my toe when I pressed on it real hard.
Flash forward a few weeks and the wound hasn’t healed. I’d been in the bay for a few hours and noticed a white dot in the middle of the hole in my toe. Press it like a zit and a 3/8” long piece of barb pops out. Healed up a few days later.

I got stuck on the top of the foot when I was 10. It was was extremely painful. I couldn’t walk for several days. I was 10 at the time so I’m not sure how the pain tolerance translates 20+ years later.

My brother got stuck in middle of his back years ago on the old bridge at Grand isle. A fellow fishing across from him slung a hard head out of the water and it sailed to the other side of the bridge and stuck him almost as deep as it could go. My brother let out a hell of a scream. We couldn't get it off of him. Brought him to the hospital I believe in Golden Meadow. it turned out to be one hell of a fishing trip. Took almost a month for it to heal. That was over 40 years ago but I vividly remember that trip.

I've never been stung that bad but I rubbed tobacco on it and the pain went away after a few minutes.

So your saying they found a body
Eta: also if some rando on a pier swings a hardhead into my back he’s going for a swim

Stepped on a blue cat head when I was younger. Barbs went through my foot. Dad sat on me to pull it out and doused it in alcohol & coal oil. I don't think my 2 yr old daughter could scream as loud as I did. Couple days later, all the pain was gone and punctures scabbard over.
That coal oil is legit.

Damned if I didn't get hit by one yesterday. I went fishing on the Miss. River and caught 7 nice blue cats and I let 3 go being too small to keep and it was one if them that got me.
Sitting on the bank among the riprap they use to slow erosion with 2 poles out and I looked up and saw not 15 ft. from the waters edge a 10 ft. gator slowly making its way upriver. I watched it for several minutes just to make sure it continued on its way and didn't decide to see what I was doing. First time I've ever seen a gator in the river, but a local that fishes that area a lot told me about it a few months ago.
