Just water them real well right before dark that will keep them from freezing...
If it is a light freeze or frost that will work...
heavy freeze.. need to cover with plastic or mulch

I resisted the temptation to plant and I'm glad I did. I usually don't plant before Good Friday, but this year I WAS going to make an exception. Guess my Grandpa was right!

I plant between 50-60 plants, so planting before a frost can get pretty expensive and is a shite ton of work!

Mine are still inside and quite a ways away from being ready. Of course I think I'm still 4wks +/- away from being able to plant outside.

I do this, except on mornings like today when it only gets to freezing right at daylight I just turn a sprinkler on them about 2 hours before daylight. Leave it on until the sun comes up and everyone is fine.

I think about this saying every year when I have the first tomatoes in town. I also get more tomatoes before having to battle the heat of late June and July. I lose a couple every year to events like this, but when you have 50 plants, only lose 6 or 8 to freeze, and they only cost $0.35 each, it's more economical to plant early if you have the time to baby them through March.

if i just grew tomatoes it would be fine... corn is even okay to plant early.. but i have a large garden. with lots of differnt veggies. corn, peas, butterbeans, snap beans, squash, cucumber, peppers..etc. by the time you factor in diesel, seeds, fertilizer, and all the time involved, i cant afford to lose plants because of a frost.

Yea, pretty much. I'm sure you can get away with planting earlier like tenfoe does, but I like to use Good Friday my start date to plant by. It seems to work out.

I have 2 gardens, so I can take chances I suppose. My garden at my house is the tomato/pepper/cucumber patch. The one at the camp is taters/corn/beans/pea patch. All my camp garden contains right now is taters and a few tomatoes. Once it warms up I'll get the other stuff in. If I was a farmer I suppose I'd wait, but a fresh BLT with a fried egg on top is all I can think about.

Covered mine last night and they look just fine this AM, of course it only got to 37 degrees, so I am glad the weather men missed it by a few degrees to the good and not the other way around, not sure if I will cover tonight????

I watered mine heavily at 6 this morning before the frost could get them. Hoping for the best!

Must replant. It didn't hurt my grape tomatoes, or my heirloom plants. But it just kilt my Celebrities.

I wasn't happy with them anyway, God did me a favor.
