Sorry for the partial pic but was jogging by my house and this came out of the drain on a bridge I went over. It was about 4 feet long

I’m guessing a water snake or moccasin? It went back in the water

Can't see the banding well enough in this photo to determine whether it is a Cottonmouth.

Would defer to Teague if he has enough to say.

I would guess a yellow bellied water snake, also. Nerodia species like Teague said at least.

Look closely. There are spots where you can tell it has sort of "spots" on top, instead of bands like a moccasin. That's definitely a watersnake.

With that description it seems more moccasin like. Seems like bands.

If you look closely, the pictured snake has markings that almost appear to be spots or blotches on the top of its back. The marks are not continuous down the side of the body.

Moccasins have bands that appear pixilated and run from one side of the body to the other.

Add to that, the snake pictured is also very slim. Moccasins tend to more often than not, have a larger girth to length ratio.

I wouldn't even throw out the diamondbacked watersnake as a possibility.

But it ain't no moccasin.

This is the best thing I can come up with as well....BUT based on what I can see I certainly wouldn't grab his tail and pull him back up on the bridge....better safe than sorry

Yep like this (old son in the OP has a little lighter pigmentation on his back maybe):

To be clear I still wouldn't grab him unless I could see his head
