I disagree but to each their own. Either way, I wouldn’t kill it

Irregular bands but still a cottonmouth

Very much a possibility - aberrations are becoming commonplace in so many species today. A copperhead with a “normal” pattern is hard to find these days, and Florida has some crazy corals lately. Here’s a scarlet snake I caught in the Everglades a year ago…

And a copperhead I caught in East Baton Rouge in ‘22…

Crazy patterns are out there for sure.

The pattern is totally different from the OP's pic. Also, the head looks small in the OP's pic because it is the furthest away from the camera.

my first thought was its just a watersnek. I'll stick with that.

actually my first thought was that it is a fake pic. Thats probably more likely.

It’s a cotton mouth. I do not remember seeing water snake with the triangular shaped body. plus the wedge shaped head. I’d blast it either way.

That 2nd photo of the 3 that TigrrrDad posted is classic, older cottonmouth to me. Dark, olive-black, with that head up pose.

That's a floating North American, coiled Oxycotton-Mouth. She looks pregnant and ready to shed her skin. There's also a snake behind her.
