Is that an interactive zoo?

Most decent zoos have a handler walking around the reptile room with something in their hands. This pic is of the handler, not OP. That's what I'd put my money on.

Makes sense.

Thought it was the OP and was thinking that is a lot of risk to assume... corn snake or not.

I was in ranger school last time I've seen one.

Beautiful snakes. The Ranger Instructor just snatched it up, played with it for a bit and dumped it in a bag to take back.

Sure you did.

And your girlfriend picked it up for you, right?

Correct. Lots of cool reptiles in the hands of handlers but they let people hold some of the baby gators and snakes if interested today. They had a hognose as well but it was resting

My daughter (no pics) had one. Let her little brother hold it while she went to take a shower. He zoned out on the TV and lost the snake. We looked all over never could find it. About a month later I found it out in the yard. One of my inside/outside cats found it and dispatched it. This was close to ten years ago, and she is still pissed at him.

About 10 years ago, I had a large pile of leaves that sat there for about 3 weeks. I started a fire and about five harmless snakes came out and one was a corn snake and it was beautiful. Haven't seen one since!

Caught 12 corns snakes so far this week!
Believe it or not, I had never caught a red corn snake in my life prior to this week (though I got a Slowinski’s corn last month).
But on my current Florida trip, I got my lifer at Apalachicola National Forest last Sunday, then 1 in Big Cypress, then 10 more in the Everglades! They are beautiful snakes.

…but my big prize was a crazy looking aberrant scarlet snake!

Supposed to look like this…

I had this one 5 days ago, within an hour drive of yours. The only other one I've seen was in coastal South Carolina.

Great looking snake. As a bonus, from yesterday is a Glass Lizard which is legless and looks very much like a snake. It's the third I've seen.

I started biking recently in the early morning and am curious if the sightings will continue.

Glass lizards are so cool! I had never seen one before this year, then during my April south Florida trip I found over 20 Island glass lizards, then a big, gorgeous Eastern glass lizard in north Florida on the way back. Got my second Eastern as my first catch this trip at Apalachicola National Forest.
