Hard to see any pattern if there is any at all. Was it solid grayish with no pattern? If so pretty sure it’s a Blue runner.

I would say it's either a rat snake or black racer (that sometimes aren't always solid black)

They way to check if it's a Louisiana Black Mamba is to pick it up and shake it good. If it bites the living crap out of you and you die foaming at the mouth 30 minutes later you will know it was the dreaded LBM.
If it bites the living crap out of you but you just bleed a lot and don't die, well it's just a Yellow-Bellied Water Snake.
Easy, fool-proof test.

No way a racer will hang around like that.

Could it be a Speckled Kingsnake about to shed?

Use your God-given instincts and kill that dangerous mf. Dont let the rant shame you into the ER.

Yep, yellow bellies are the same as plain-bellied. In some places the belly is whiter but some locales they are yellow.

Most of the time I would agree, but I've been watching a lot of herping dudes on YouTube and there have been several instances where the racer didn't make a run for it at all. I think if you startled it, there's no doubt it would take off, but a lot of these guys will lift up old tin and racer would just sit there. My guess is if they felt threaten, they would take off.
