Anyone own or know someone who owns a silver lab? Looking into possibly getting one but I am seeking advise and opinions.

My dad used to train labs he always said black labs were smarter than the rest. Then it was brown and third was yellow. And if it was any other color or had a white patch on its chest it wasn't going to be worth a dam.

Only silver lab I've ever been around was wild as F. It watched it eat a hard rubber wheel chock..."special"

I've got a black and a yellow.

The black worked harder, but the yellow is the sweetest and most gentle. Big ole boy too. Named him Fred.

People are going to scold you for their recessive traits. That being said, get what you want and hopefully the dog will turn into the pet or retriever that you are looking for

don't get one of those "labs". there is one breeder (chick) that uses a rotweiler in the breeding process.
i also know a trainer that has seen some agression problems in the silvers.
i think its VERY responsible to:
- select for recessive traits
- polute the blood line

honestly, they look cool but everything I've read says stay clear of them. Sure there are plenty of mixed reviews, but at the end of the day, Silver is a bad recessive trait that is largely looked down upon in the lab world. As mentioned above, blacks are usually the more intelligent and competitive dogs of the bunch contrary to what some think.

Color alone has absolutely no bearing on how your dog will turn out. O, zip, none, notta. That being said there are 3 colors of labs- black, yellow and chocolate. I'm not commenting on any other bastardized color.

People say otherwise because the pool of quality black dogs is much larger. A trifactored dog doesnt give lesser genetics to non-black pups.

GSP - Riley has been the best dog we have ever had, hands down. Very playful, great with other dogs. She has lots of energy and loves to run, except when it's cold. I can see why people have problems as duck dogs, I literally had to put her outside this morning and it is only 45 degrees. She also gets along with and is protective of the 5 chickens we have if you can believe that....
