For those that may be interested, Aimsurplus.com is running a sale on Law Enforcement Trade In Sig Sauer P229's for $450 w/one magazine. The magazines are also being sold for $18. I've never purchased a LEO trade in but considering this particular pistol is normally sold for around a grand, I figured, why not?

My uncle has a refurb 226. I've shot it a few times, and can't find anything wrong with it. Go for it

Aimsurplus is good to go. Dont know if youve ever ordered from them, but I've never had an issue.

Those pistols look good, they are only in 40 though so I'm passing.

If that's what you want don't hesitate, those have been up for a while but generally those trade ins fly out the door.

I get email updates from them and half the time they sell out before I can check the email.

AIm had some S&W 5903's I was eyeballing. Uses the same Magazine as my Marling Camp 9 carbine so I thought it might be interesting to pair them up but I haven't pulled the trigger yet because I really don't know much about the 5903. I have the sister to the 229 in a 228. I love that pistol.

I recently found (december i think) a new sig p229 in .40 on gunbroker for $550. As agencies are knee jerk switching to the 9mm, sig is left with a lot of product and there may still be deals to be had. the trade ins may have a lot of mileage on them. The p229 platform is a tank and can really handle the .40 w/ ease. Its an easier shooter than my CZ 75d in 9 and about on par w/ my glock 17.

Fortunately most of the "mileage" is in a holster. Police trade-ins rarely have a lot rounds fired through them. The typical LEO handgun is "carried a lot and fired very little." Cosmetic blemishes from holster abrasion is quite common.

I have bought several Glock 19 trade-ins over the years. In fact my carry gun for the past 15 years has been a Gen 2 LEO trade-in.

As rebelrouser pointed out, lots of agencies are switching to the 9mm. So it's getting harder to find 9mm trade-ins. There are usually plenty of G22's out there, but very few G19's.

eta: Aim Surplus is GTG. I've bought several from them.

Not sure if serious....

LEO guns have thousands of rounds fired through them, at the range. Literally thousands. Unless it's Hazzard County SO i guess.

That being said i have a GLock23 LEO trade in, no issues from it. Although i did take it to Glock and they replaced all the internals, new mags, the works. Glock customer service is great.

Meh, depends on the agency. STPSO stopped all range days(last I heard, Ill ask again or if someone else knows), so unless the deputies want to pay to shoot, then all they do is qualify once a year.

So 240rds/year minimum. Isnt really that much when some of these pistols have only been issued for a few years.

You're talking some pistols may have never even had any basic maintenance other than cleaning.

I suppose you're right. Once a year? sheesh. That's scary.

Ya, think they had some budget cuts a few years ago or something.

I'm sure there are some that are shooting more, but for some that arent on patrol id be most just qualify and carry a pistol because they have to.

Thats just one agency though, maybe some others will share. I'm sure there are agencies that shoot the piss out of em.

The trade in pistols are generally a good deal, they just look like crap.

Double check and see if it's a DAO or DA/SA.

Many LE weapons are DAO. May not matter to you but I prefer a DA/SA on those guns.

Coincidence: Received an email from AIM Surplus a few minutes ago advertising M&P .40's for $299 (incl. shipping).
