Looking for a first pistol for home protection and possible conceal carry. Thoughts on this firearm?

TIA

Love my XL. Pair it with a red dot, tlr-7 sun, and the mag guts magazine upgrade and it’s good to go.

Outstanding choice.

For the money you could buy two Taurus G3c.

We have both and a Glock.
Very little difference in the three.

I have one and carry it a lot and love it.

That being said, I would never grab it 1st for home defense.

Get something bigger. Beretta 92, glock 17, sig p226, M&P 2 full size, sig p320, smith or ruger revolver, etc.

If you aren't going to carry concealed, there's no reason to not get a full sized gun from a reputable manufacturer in the type of action you prefer

It’s a nice handgun. Of the ones I own it fits my hand perfectly. The xl version has a longer barrel than the p365. But the p365 is a little more concealable.

I have had 2 Sig P365’s and 1 XL.
Loved the sights and thought I’d prefer the longer slide that comes with the XL. It just didn’t conceal as easily, which was my primary point in getting the Sig in the first place.
As a home defense weapon it wouldn’t be my choice, I’d go to at least a mid-size frame like the Sig 320 (if you prefer Sigs), Glock 19, Walther PDP or HK VP9. You can find compact versions of the Walther and HK that will conceal but are beefy enough to be better all-around shooters than the P365 XL. I like the Sigs, and they have some nice sights, but hard as I tried never loved them.

I use a Glock 26 with extension for my home defense and a sig P365x for CCW.

I love my P365. Shoots well, feels great in my hand conceals well.

I’m sure the XL is the same.

Overall length of the 365X is 6.0"
Overall length of the 365XL is 6.6"

Evaluating both for my primary concealed carry. Need to handle the XL to make sure, but the 1/2" more length doesn't seem (at least on paper) to make too much difference on concealment. Maybe I'm wrong?

If I’m getting one pistol for both home and carry, it’d be my Canik SC Elite. Double stack, small enough for carry but still very easy to shoot well thanks to it’s wonderfully smooth trigger. I think it still costs under $400. Got mine a couple years ago for about $350.

I guess if you're looking for a dual purpose, home/carry pistol. Get a smith shield plus 9mm. Virtually the same size as a shield 2.0 but with greater capacity.

I have one and it's really the perfect combination of concealability and shootability.

10 rnd magazine for carry and a 13 rnd magazine for home defense.

Also, you can get the pistol with a safety, which I think is important.

Oh and you can also get a light attachment for it.

You realize the 365xl has a 15 round magazine.

Yeah but the sig is bigger than the shield. I think the shield is a better compromise. I can slide my shield right into my back pocket.

Yes, but not much.

Anyway, grabbing a subcompact for home defense is typically not the best idea. If it's all you have that's one thing but a larger pistol will usually be easier to shoot enabling you more, accurate shots on target.

Really good info and thanks to all that have chimed in. I didn't think there was that much of a difference between conceal vs. home defense.....y'all have surely enlightened me. While I'm considering the Sig, I'm certainly open to other suggestions. Home defense is probably more important at this point than the conceal aspect.

Thanks again

Midsize can pretty easily be concealed and would be much better for home defense (over a compact)

Glock 19
SIG p320 midsized
H&K VP9
I own all of these and they’re great
