Nowadays it's nice to know how but kinda unnecessary. I learned on one and my first truck was one. I miss driving a stick sometimes. But the manual trans is on it's way out in pretty much all but sports cars. shite you haven't been able to get a full sized truck with a manual trans in years. Hard to find even new jeeps with manual trans.
ETA my gf drives a jeep with a manual trans. It's hot

I'm teaching my daughter this week.
I'm also gonna teach her the bootleggers turn, but we're gonna use a rental for that.

Learned how to drive with my dad's three-on-the-tree Chevy C-10.
My first vehicle. Had no idea how to drive it when I bought it so Dad had to do the test drive.
Even in the 90's some kids my age had no idea what I was doing moving my arm up and down while driving.

You can get torque converters with higher stall levels, but this is harsh on all other components involved. Racers have been doing this for years.
Pretty much the opposite of what you want in a truck though. The TC's in them are setup with low stall and high-torque multiplication. Trade-off is that they heat up ATF like a mofo. Best thing you can do for a truck that's going to see some towing/hauling is to upgrade the transmission cooler, install a temp gauge for it, and get the valvebody setup for firmer shifting.

I learned in an old S-10 in a small town Baptist Church parking lot. When I was 13, my granddad took me there to teach me. I could barely reach the pedals and see over the wheel. Two years later my parents bought me a Jeep with a manual. I had a few months until I turned 16 and got my drivers license to learn how to drive it. I'd take it out at night and on the weekends and drive around. My parents didn't seem to care. Mostly just around the neighborhood but then Mom caught on and started giving me a grocery list. The best thing was, neither of my sisters could drive it, and I told my parents the trips to the grocery store and other errands would quit if either of them decided to try and teach them.
Two years later after HS graduation, I had a summer job at this plumbing and A/C Supply place. They had two compact pickups for deliveries, and when those were both taken there was a manager with a Chevy 1500 that would let us use his. All of them were stick shifts. Of all the guys just working there for the summer, only me and one other guy could drive them. So while they were stocking the warehouse and unloading trucks in the south Alabama heat in July, we were cruising around at 5 under the speed limit making deliveries all day.
My Jeep now is a stick shift as well. My wife has mentioned wanting to learn to drive it, but the few times I brought it up after I bought it, she didn't feel like it. I quit bringing it up. Then that fall, I was on a trip with my dad out of town for an NFL game. It was early October and perfect weather. We took his little Benz convertible, and I get a text when I'm on the way to ATL from my wife saying she wished she had let me teach her so she and my daughter could ride around in it with the top off.
I'll probably never get rid of it. And teach my girl to drive it when she's old enough. And if my son wants it in 15 years I'll give it to him.
