Missed that part. Ruger makes an LCR in .22lr which would be fantastic to practice with.

KY,
Congrats on getting started in recreactional handgun shooting.

While you've got some really good guns already, I also think it would be great for you to have a 22 LR to learn the basics w/. A 22 LR revolver is hard to beat for that. Ruger and S&W both make some fine 22 LR revolvers. I've got a 22 LR revolver that I bought many years ago. It's been a very good gun. Here are some other 22 LR revovlers from a Gallery of Guns search using my local zip code.

Folks,

Thanks for the advice. After reading these boards for a while, I know I could get some accurate answers to my questions. Thanks for all the advice. My next gun will be a .22 LR for honing my skills.

Shoot closer distances. 20 yards is far for a pistol.

Most skilled handgun shooters will tell you that the "self-taught" approach will usually result in the acquiring of a number of bad habits. And bad habits are hard to break.

Based on your purchases, you seem to have a fair amount of discretionary income.I would suggest spending some of that money on some professional instruction. It won't require a huge expenditure.

Based on your initial post, you're flinching. You may get rid of your flinch with the "ball and dummy round" approach. And you may not.

A good instructor will get you past that issue, and on the "right track," with a lot less time, money and grief having been expended.

Thanks, I will look into some instruction. I got my CCDW through a friend who is the instructor, I could likely get him to go with me and work on my technique.

The guy in the vet gives good advice. I like noobs with wheel guns. Check out the ruger 22/45 pistols also.

The only advice I can give you is work on your grip and do it the same every time. Concentrate on your target, not so much on your sites. Breathe. Do it the same every time. You should be focused on your target and the "bang" should be a surprise. Do it the same every time.

And the best advice I can give is shoot. A lot.

Looks like Buds has a bunch of these, several different model numbers.... Any particular one you would recommend?

I am astonished at how well every single human being seems to be able to shoot my SR9c. It may not be the best in the world, but holy crap it's up there. And mine has around 6000 rounds through it, just as a reference to my strong opinion.

Also, since you said your wife has a Ruger SR9, I STRONGLY suggest you remove the magazine disconnect safety. It is only in the gun to make it legal in the communist-state-market (CA, NY, NJ, etc.). Here is a video showing you how to do it:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8dHXND_9-bE

For the OP, I'll tell you this most important thing to learn about handgun shooting when you start... Two words:

FRONT SIGHT

Isolate that front sight and have the target be your background. You will see exactly what you're doing with your flinch when that sight dances around. Wherever that dot is, the bullet is sure to follow it.

And besides simple dry firing to sharpen your skills, I would suggest you buy a few snap caps.

You can randomly mix them in a magazine (or even better have someone load your mags with them) and see if you flinch on a snap cap since it won't go off. It's hard to completely get rid of a flinch, but you can at least stifle it as much as possible.
