I just caught a 200lb 7' bull shark out of Destin. Whipped my arse for an 1 1/2hr on a 40lb line and pulled the boat over a mile. Harder than any tuna I've caught. Regret not bringing my 1911 on board.

That's not my experience with catching sharks. I've found them to be much more lethargic than tuna, amberjack, etc. Was like reeling in a log.

The sharks on the Atlantic side like the taste of people more than the gulf ones. THANK GOD!

Yea, it was more like dead weight, but I've never caught a tuna that heavy so it sure as hell seemed more difficult.

To the guy who wades with swimmers: don't wade by swimmers. Yeah it's usually fine to wade if Blacktips are in the water. My buddy got bit by one once while surfing and he said the Coast Guard paperwork was the worst part. Plus, the majority of Blacktips that would be around you if you're wading are probably less than three feet long.

Yeah wife has a friend who posted a video on Facebook of one that damn near beached itself it was so far in. Are you talking about Paul Scott's picture with the two bull sharks?

This happened when I was a kid in Gulf Shores about 20 years ago. Apparently the sharks come in to spawn every so many years. We used our small poles we had brought to catch baitfish in the surf then bought big arse poles for the sharks. Hooked many, only landed 1 to the beach, about a 6 foot black tip.

You could literally see the shark swimming along, cut a slit in the side of the baitfish, and pitch it about 20 feet infront of where the shark was heading and they'd hit it.

Short Version: Went wade fishing in destin when the shad were running. Went fishing when they would school in the early morning/afternoon. Would see sharks from beach house but didn't let it stop me. Caught some fish and then a shark. Was walking in with shark on the line with my cousin and then had a 5' reef shark come very close, we both stomped when it got to close and it turned and darted off. Can't remember the time of year, a little after mid-spring or mid-summer I think. About three years ago.

maybe he was fishing and then the beach people showed up?

wade fisherman has just as much right to the beach as swimmers...

and unless they are chumming.. they aren't "attracting" sharks...

yeah last time in OB.. .lil choupique was fishing with soft plastics. and was about 1oo yards past the closest swimmer...

some guy on the beach was bitching about him fishing and that he was gonna go out there and put a stop to them fishing... I politely told him... his dad would be out there to stop you and it might not go like you think it will.. because his dad is a bad combination of a crazy and capable....

oddly his whole crew was drinking beer and wine coolers out of glass bottles..and the worst injury on the beach that week was from one of their broken glass bottles...

oh yeah.. when the girl cut her foot on the broken glass - what did they do..... yep.. took her into the surf to was out her foot.... can't fix stupid is right.

and just how does this endanger the swimmers?

seems like the prudent thing if you are swimming and spot sharks is to get out of the water...

seems like fishing shark out of water.. would help situation?

or.. Like one old senior chief told us one day...

Never go in the water without a knife or a swim buddy.... does anyone know why you need a knife?

if you get surrounded by sharks - stab swim buddy.... LEAVE AREA
