I was there this past weekend

In 2 days saw 6 or 7 smaller guys(2'-3') roaming around the beach

Had one 6' swim probably 30' off the beach, then hung around the jetty for about 30 minutes before taking off

Never had any shark problems down there, but 2 years ago the Skates (I think), were horrible. Bump your leg all day with a shock.

my nephew knows a guy that is on a helicopter regular along the beach.

Told him that if people saw what he sees, they'd never go in the water.

Saw footage during shark week years ago from a heli. frick all that, sharks were EVERYWHERE right near the people yet weren't seen by them. Hanging out on crab island is all I will do as far as being in saltwater.

and just how does this endanger the swimmers?

seems like the prudent thing if you are swimming and spot sharks is to get out of the water...

seems like fishing shark out of water.. would help situation?

Dumbass wasn't trying to catch the shark, trying to catch fish. Vibrations attract sharks. So catching fish, lwhich cause erratic vibrations actually attracts MORE sharks.
