there aren't enough tanks or jets to wipe out the whole population without a fight. especially since they'd lose TONS of their troops to revolting well formed militia made up of ex-military and civilians.
no, i definitely think owning weapons is all about the 2nd amendment's intent. but i feel ya.

We have a voluntary army, they would tell the Gov to frick off before shooting there family.

if you thing that civilian ownership of weapons would put any fight against the govt you are very mistaken. and it has absolutely 0 deterrence on military action against its people. The govt at this point in time is made up of rather sane, stable people. yes they are overbearing, but they would not roll tanks into times square.

that wasn't my argument. yes boots on the ground is needed if you decide to go to war.. but a civilian army made up of a few dudes with ar's and 870s will do nothing against a govt that wants to take use its military power to suppress the people.

a few? i do wonder... how many ar's alone have been sold since they got unbanned. now imagine how many TOTAL guns have been sold and are floating around in our populace.
it's gonna take a HELL of a lot of jets. besides that, as other guy said. it would be very unlikely that our own military could actually turn against its own citizens anyway. the most probable situation would be foreign attack or world war 3 type scenarios anyway.

if it gets to the point of the govt using the military against its people... i would assume it means it has thats armys full attention and can get it to do whatever it wants.

You're not thinking clear. You think our own friends and family would take those orders to fire upon us? I know many people in the military and they are fed up with the gvt. The civilians would have access to anything and everything
