Seafoam. I’m a believer.

Bought a used boat 2000 tracker 185 with a 90 merc. It was running pretty crappy but it was really cheap.
Anyway, was reading up on symptoms and came across a seafoam mixture that was pretty extreme but I tried it anyway.
My motor was really sluggish and had a low top end. I thought either carbs plugged, jets plugged, or excessive carbon buildup and maybe stuck rings.
Anyway the Seafom mixture I found called for a 16 ounce can of seafoam added to a 3/4 gallon of gas. My engine is oil injected so I didn’t add any oil, I just let my injection system do it’s job.
It called for the motor to be run at high idle for 15 minutes then kill it and let it set for 15 minutes. Repeat this process for a total of three times. It smoked like a broke stove and at times it would stumble and almost die and a really thick cloud of smoke would blow out.
After the third round, I hooked it back up to regular gas and and it was unbelievable how much better it performed. Before, it would take 10-12 seconds to get out of the hole and top end was about 25. I could turn pretty sharp when coming out of the hole and it would bog and never get on plane. After the treatment it was around 5-6 seconds to get out of the hole and topped out at 41.
Pretty remarkable difference after only running a gas treatment. This was my last quick fix I was gonna try before tearing into the carbs. Glad I tried this first.

Seafoam is miracle juice

You could have just changed the spark plugs.

I changed the plugs last week. Didn’t help at all.

That’s right. And this stuff has been around for years. I hear it was developed in the 30s.

I discovered it in about 2008 I guess. I love the shite

Did this last time I took the boat out. My old Johnson 175 Fast Strike has been idling rough and smoking a little heavy. My starboard tank had about 2 gallons of gas in it. So I dumped 2 cans of Seafoam in the starboard tank and took it for a ride. Cruised at about 4500 rpms for a while. Then I’d stop and fish for about 20 minute. Cranked up again and cruised some more. Killed all of the gnats and mosquitoes while doing so.
Did that until I ran the tank out. Then switched over to the port tank. One more lake fogging. Then after that it idled smooth as butter and was smoking at its normal rate. Mine is also oil injected.

Many recommend not running it through 2 strokes because it's a powerful solvent and washes the cylinder walls.
They might be right but F it. The shite makes engines run.

I use it in my lawnmower too.

My motor is 27 years old. Still has good compression. If I have to rebuild it, it probably won’t be because of Seafoam. It’ll be the age.

I did some research and seafoam was used back before 2 stroke oils were developed. Back when you would dump a quart of 30 weight oil into a 6 gallon can of gas for your outboard. Engines would stay gummed up and carbon would build up pretty badly. Running the seafoam in a heavy concentration was tool of the trade.

Well you sound like the right guy to ask. What's the difference between seafoam and evinrude's decarbonizor or whatever that stuff is they recommend annually to prevent rings sticking

If it wasnt for seafoam it wouldn't get the use it takes to wear it out. At least that's how I felt about mine

I love seafoam. I love to take a little seafoam and put a little in my hair when I've had a rough week

What I read was that you had to order the stuff from the engine manufacturers, but you could get seafoam at Walmart.
That was pretty much the only difference.

So how does this stuff work? Just dump a can in my gas tank and run my 4 stroke outboard on muffs until how long? Or are there actual rules to using this?

Curious as well what’s this magic doo doo

This was one of the hits I got when I googled carbon build up two stroke.
It was pretty informative.

The mopar juice is supposedly better, but I still buy Seafoam.

I use it everytime I fill up my boat and I have never had any fuel issues.
