Recently bought a Savage Axis .270 for a great deal and wanting to upgrade the scope that came on it. I’m not wanting to spend much over $250. I’ll be shooting anywhere from 100 to 200 yards probably not much over that if any. Not a big time rifle guy so I need some direction, What do y’all recommend?

UPDATE: Y’all I ended up going with the Leupold VX Freedom 3-9x50 and I am happy so far. Did not take long to sight in and I dropped a nice doe in her tracks this past Saturday at about 75yards. I was between it and the Nikon Prostaff but the Leupold just seemed a little more clear when I shopped around.

Spend just a touch more and get a Leupold VX3i. Bumping your budget just $100-150 would get you some pretty decent glass between Leupold and Vortex alone.

Shoot what came with it in the combo. Did it come with a Nikon?

I bought the same rifle/scope comobo last year in 308. Thinking about replacing the scope with a $200ish vortex.

Got a $200 tc 6.5 creed last yr. I have a ton of guns so didnt wana break the bank on a scope. Every gun i own has leupolds or nikons on them. Did a ton of research and ended up buying a bushnell trophy xtreme 4-16-44 for like $200. And man, i cant tell you how pleased i am with it. Took to missouri last year, hunted in snow and ice. No issues... hunted south ms all winter with it, rain, fog.. no issues. For the price ill put it against any scope in that range.

What's your opinion on the cheap Nikon Buckmaster scope? Waiting on one to come in (4-12X).

How has the Weaver scope that came on it worked out for you?

Mine actually came with a Bushnell 3x9x40 with bdc reticle. Not sure if that's because I bought an axis II or what. But I hunted with it last year and killed a couple deer with it, so I can't complain too much. Just need a little glass upgrade for this year.

Leupold rifleman is a good value at $200ish. I have 3 of them that are all still on rifles that I shoot.

Nikon, vortex, and redfield all have good value scopes as well. $150-$250 buys a hell of a good scope these days

take a look at the Leupold VX-freedom 3-9x50. 249.00 at Academy and really nice glass and forgiving eye box for the money.

Bushnell is trash. My son bought an Axis combo that had the Bushnell. Reticle came apart before I shot a box of shells in it while I was sighting it in. Get a Nikon ProStaff 3-9 x 40 or 3-9x50. Very good scope for the money.

I’ve had the Prostaff in mind. I see there are different versions such as p3 p5 etc. what is the difference? Any better than others?

The buckmaster is a good scope for the money. Price used to be a good bit higher but has dropped significantly over the years. I'd go with the Prostaff if I were to get a Nikon.

I'm still a proponent of the Redfield Revolution. For the price, the glass clarity and eye relief can't be beat.
