Is there going to be a point that no matter how big the damn boat, the transom is only going to hold so much.

Nope...
people dont understand thay can make polymer sections to hold multiple times the amounts rated for these outboards.

They have to have a new cooling design
The amt of water they need for cooling is frickin unreal
But
My Yam F 250 sucks a bunch with a standard design water pump

Does each motor come with its own pull rope for emergency cranking -- or just one rope per boat ?

The weight to HP ratio is way off, 1000 lbs. and 425 HP or go with the Mercury 400R at only 668 lbs. and I am a Yamaha fanboy!

I think what we're all missing with the weight is that this new block will be the platform for future expansion. It's at 425 now, but once they're at 500hp (it's coming) with this setup the weight to HP ratio will look a lot better.

I still dont understand why an outboard has to be so complex. It's literally just a vertical engine and a F N R gearbox

who wants a 1000# engine on a boat where a few inches of draft, deck drain, or porpoising is an issue. Merc is a small bit of boost away from 400+ hp V8 at way less than 600#

At those weight to hp ratios inboards are more attractive until you consider speed... to me that is the only plus of these large cc boats
