Anyone keep their safe in the garage? I'm not so much concerned about theft, but I'm wondering how the constant humidity will effect the guns/optics.

Depends on where you live a little bit, but it’s most likely doable anywhere. Just get a safe dehumidifier. I have a cannon brand one that you take out every 6 months or so and stick in the oven for 30 minutes to re-dry it out and good to go again.

I keep a bucket of damprid in the bottom of mine. And I'm not leaving it open all the time to outside air.

i have one of these in my keezer. Which is dealing with way more moisture opening and closing with LA's high humidity and the cool surfaces. It is wireless and only plug it in for a couple hours to dry it out.

Why have a safe then. Bolt that fricker down. just because they are heavy doesnt mean they wont be stolen. I have seen two very big safes on claims recently.

They have moisture eaters you can throw in there, no problem

And thanks for everyone's responses.

My safe is in my garage, I have had a bit of a problem with a little rust forming, I keep my dumidifiers going and oil them down every 3 months or so. I have no choice about location. Safe will not fit thru any door I have

I use a "Goldenrod" dehumidifier in mine out in the garage and I haven't had any issues with moisture.

I also keep my safe in my garage. If I did again I would set it on wood blocks to keep it off the concrete, but I have to keep a goldenrod and a Peete safe humidifier in it to keep it nice and dry. 3 years and haven't seen any rust on any gun. Link to Peete dryer

I had mine bolted in my bedroom. What's the benefit of having it in the garage instead? We also keep all our papers and the like in there. Sorry for the derail.

I think it has to do with space.

I keep mine in house with a motion detector attached to the alarm system which is monitored. People want shite bad enough, they will find a way to take it. However, you can take steps to slow them down until someone arrives.

My house is raised probably 5 feet off the ground. My master bedroom is upstairs. I have no interest in moving a 600 pound safe that far up unless it's an absolute must.

I also think it would be convenient to have it right next to my work bench in the garage.

Ah, yes. My apologies for an invalid assumption. I keep forgetting that I'm on a slab. My home back in La is raised up that high as well...so I understand. If Dad would have gotten a safe...I guess he would have bolted it down in his shop (not unlike a garage).
