Anyone pull a travel trailer with an SUV. I have 4 kids and don't think we can fit them and the wife in a truck so I was wondering if its possible in an Armada or suburban

Sure. Why not? We pull our travel trailer with Suburban because we have 4 kids also.

Chad is correct but depending on the model vehicle you choose you can probably pull 8000 lbs. but, as you probably know, you shouldnt tap out towing capacity.

Remember, water, fuel, gear, 120 fingers and toes adds a lot of weight.

You have plenty options under 8000 lbs. Our TT is not a lite version its 26 ft long and weighs about 5200 lbs. We load it up and my suburban jerks it around fine.

You will run out of payload before you max your pull weight. Suburban has about 1700lbs of payload, pin weight if a travel trailer is usually about 110% of the trailers GVWR - pick your trailer, subtract the pin weight and your families weight and that will tell you if your safe to pull - you should also subtract the weight of a full tank of gas - you will see how quickly it is eaten up.

it needs to be a real light trailer as Chad and RB said.

You might want to think about a full size van. May have better towing capacity...

I pulled an 18' with our Grand Cherokee (new style/Hemi motor).

With the load distributing hitch, it was not an issue. Actually pulled it better than my dad's Avalanche.

Plenty of SUVs have the towing capacity to pull a decent sized travel trailer. One thing to look at though is your tires. P rated, or passenger tires, will feel much less steady and be less safe than LT tires which have stronger sidewalls. In addition to the tires, the anti sway hitch helps alot.

This. And the weight distribution hitch is well worth the $. My trailer doesnt sway and it helps when 18 wheelers pass you. That first big rig that sucks you in when he passes at 80 is quite the rush
