I wonder, are the barrel sets a little easier to get than a whole rifle? or will he have to wait for that too?

Yes. They should be. Most people buy the gun in whatever they shoot most. I have a 455 in .22. Never planned on buying new barrels really. Plenty of companies make aftermarket barrels for it too so he can go that route.

Here's a link to a thread about my Savage.
Cliff's Notes version:
1. Replaced extractor and bolt "clip"/spring w/ new parts from Savage Customer Service. Helped a little.
2. Polished extractor. Helped a little.
3. Installed a second bolt "clip"/spring. No problems ever since. There were other remedies on the 'net, but those would void the warranty which I wasn't willing to do.

ETA: When a second bolt "clip"/spring is installed, it's put on over the original which is left in place.

I'm using a Vortex 2-7x35 Diamondback on my rimfires. However, after looking through a buddy's Leopold VX-Freedom Rimfire scope a few days ago, I'll be buying one of those for my next rimfire rifle.

I have 2 CZ 457’s and a CZ 452. All are superb shooters. The 457’s are 22mag (walnut) and 17hmr (synthetic) and I have a spare 22LR barrel. I put Nikon Rimfire II’s on all 3. I have swapped barrels on the 457’s numerous times and it’s a piece of cake, literally 4 screws.
I also have had a CZ 455 and a Tikka T1x but traded off both despite enjoying both, just had an overabundance of Rimfire rifles.

My 452 and one of my 512s have a Nikon prostaff rimfire on them. All the rest have the Tasco World class scopes and they are fine for rimfire rifles.

For any sort of precision stuff, Area 419 is the way to go. Get their base and put some nice rings on it if you want to go with a picatinny set up for longer range stuff. For a hunting setup, go with Talley.

If you can find a CZ 453, those have the single set trigger and are awesome.

Worried that the Area419 15 MOA scope mount, I would not be able to zero at 25/50yds. Shooting at 100 isn't always qn option.

I absolutely love my 10/22. Replaced the stock with a Magpul Hunter and I’ve got a Vortex rimfire Diamondback scope on it. The thing is a tack driver. I can shoot out the center bullseye of a target at 50 yards. I can’t think of anything you’d want more out of a rimfire rifle.

It will be fine. If you have any questions, call those guys. Very nice people.
