Anyone shooting the RPR? Good bang for the buck 22.

If not then what?

I have the Ruger American Rimfire Compact. It stacks CCI Standard Velocity in one hole at 25 yards. Not sure the Precision model is worth the extra money from a hunting perspective.

I have one and it's one of my favorite rifles.

Shooting subs with a silencer and all you hear is the hammer falling.

It's very accurate as well.

I can’t be persuaded that a RPR 22 is anything more than a marketing ploy. A 22 can only be so precise and at a certain range.

No, you can argue that the gun makes a huge difference shooting calibers like .308, 6.5 CM, etc. I don’t care what gun you shoot a .22 out of, in almost every case the cartridge is the limiting factor.

It's not bad and the fact that it comes with a chassis at its price is nice. If it were my money, I would buy a Tikka t1x or a CZ457 (I prefer CZ). They are more refined and nicer. You can always get a chassis later but it will definitely increase the price. But yeah, CZ or Tikka is definitely my first choice for the under $1k .22s.

You'd be wrong.

Look at what Voodoo and Zermatt Rimx guns are doing.

Have seen videos of people shooting out to 1000 yds with them

I have a Ruger American .22 WMR and it puts bullets in the same hole at 50 yards. They make some accurate rimfires. I like their triggers as well.

I have one sitting in my safe that I might be willing to part with.

If not then what?

Disclosure: I don't own a Ruger PCR, but I do have experience w/ a number of other rifles in 22LR.

A few years ago I wanted a really accurate bolt action 22LR w/ a threaded muzzle. I wanted a CZ457, but when it first came out, the one I wanted didn't make it into initial production. I ended up w/ a Tikka T1x as it had the right features (fairly heavy barrel, threaded muzzle, synthetic stock and stainless steel). It's as accurate as I can shoot. Five shot 1" groups at 100 yards are not uncommon. Fortunately, like all my 22's it likes CCI Standard Velocity ammo. Ironically, CZ started making the model I wanted a year later. I still hope to get a CZ someday. My cousin has a 457 in 17 HMR and it's scary accurate. His will shoot <3/4" groups at 100 yards. This past Christmas I made an impulse purchase on a Savage Mark II in 22 LR. Although it's not quite as accurate as the Tikka, it also cost half as much. 1" groups at 100 yards are rare w/ it.

So while I have no personal experience w/ the RPR, I can personally recommend the Tikka, Savage and CZ. It's going to be up to you determine the components of your "bang for the buck" equation. How much weight will you assign each factor in the equation, e.g. accuracy, cost and other features of the gun?

Savage Mk II

Tikka Tx1

A few 5 shot groups at 50 yard groups w/ Tikka

ETA: While I like my Savage and can recommend it, it's clearly not as refined as the Tikka nor CZ. In addition, the Mk II is known to have a cheap magazine, is susceptible to misfires from headspace issues and can have extraction problems. Mine had a bad magazine (which I fixed) and Savage also sent me a new one. I also had extractor problems, but fixed that w/ some help from Savage and internet research.

I have the American rim fire target model and love it. Almost went cz. The only reason I went ruger is because it uses the same mags as the 10/22 and several family members have 10/22s. The cz is definitely a nicer rifle, but I have no complaints at all with my ruger.

I have an At-One stock on a 10/22. great stock, easily make adjustments to the fitment, but they are heavy.

How did you fix it, can you point me in a good direction?

Mine has the same problem.

You could do the chassis one for around $1k. Maybe around $950. MSRP is like $1050. That will be the closest to the RPR for you. I will say, finding anything CZ is hard. They are very in demand.

A friend talked me into selling him one of mine a couple of weeks ago. A 455 in .17hmr I had only shot it a few times and it was in brand new condition. He gave me 150 bucks more than I paid for it. He said he was going to order the .22 LR barrel set for it. I wonder, are the barrel sets a little easier to get than a whole rifle? or will he have to wait for that too?
