Is a Ruger No 1 300WM sub MOA accurate out to 300-400yds?

If you can do your part they'll definitely be MOA or less with the right load. But you better be hanging on to it good. They're pretty lively once you get up past a .270 and downright violent once you get into the Magnums. They're really nice guns though and definitely neat looking

IMO, Nope
No 1's and some No. 3's are cosmetically appealing rifles but they lack in the accuracy department. I've sold several that drove me crazy trying to improve accuracy.

I gotta ask though why a 300wm if you're only going to be shooting 300-400yds?

When I originally posted last night, I was in the middle of a bourbon fueled discussion with a buddy about 300-400 yd shots. Thinking about a CZ or Tikka actually for long distance 30cal gun, but want a ruger #1 too.

Had a No. 1 in .270, tried several diff rounds, changed the scope just to make sure, then tried more diff rounds in diff weights, diff bullet shapes, could never get that fkr consistent, dumped it

My best friend has a Ruger #1 in 270 Win. His shoots MOA, but he tweaked it a lot (including playing w/ a number of different handloads) to get it there. From what I've read, #1's are traditionally rather finicky and it can be difficult getting them to shoot MOA. IIRC, his best "bang for the buck" was playing around w/ a pressure point at the tip of the barrel channel/forend.

Inaccuracy has not been my experience. I have 4 one-holers. .257Roberts, .280Rem, .30-06, .338-06

You have to find the right one.

I can only speak for what I’ve heard about them. As others have said, their reputation is that they are finicky. That doesn’t stop me from wanting one though. I’d like to try my luck and see if I can get one that shoots or tweak one to shoot. Not really sure what caliber I’d want. Maybe something a little different. 338-06? 280 AI? I just always thought they were cool rifles.

Never played with on but after looking most of the twist rates on the barrels are pretty fast which lends to heavier bullets. The .308 has a 1:10” which would do better with 168 gr and would possibly be even better with 180 gr.
