3-9X or 3-10X w/ 40-44 mm Objective. Don't need an adjustable objective or target knobs. As far as brand, I'd suggest a Redfield Revolution or whatever product line is in your price range from Nikon, Leupold, Burris or Vortex. One other tip, one can frequently find factor refurbs or blems at deeply discounted prices from Natchez Shooters Supply. I've bought a couple scopes from them like that and have been very pleased.

Saw a Bushnell 3200 elite firefly at pawn shop today for $220. Anybody know anything about them? 3-9x50.

Good question. I've owned at least one of nearly all the more common names in scopes, but I've never owned a Bushnell. I bet someone here can give us some insight.

Thanks for the help. Think I’ve narrowed it to one of the Nikon models. One final question, can’t really see the difference in the buckmaster II models and Prostaff 3. Am I missing something obvious? Buckmaster is a bit less $$

i don’t own a Vortex scope, but have heard great reviews of them. I do own a pair of Vortex binos and am extremely pleased with them.
Nikon has some good options in your budget.
I would recommend saving a little more money and get into the $500-700 range for a scope if that is an option. You have several months before a scope is needed to kill a deer at 200 yards and the purchase is well worth the expense once you see the difference in glass quality taking the next step.
Go 50mm if you can.

I looked through every 300 dollar scope I could find a couple years ago. I liked the Nikon Prostaff most. Completely happy with it on my 270. Anchored one out 290 steps with it last year.

I've only bought one Nikon scope. It was a factory refurb from Natchez Shooters for my son's 10/22. I don't remember what model it was. If you have access to the actual scopes, I'd go w/ what looks the best looking, yet affordable, Nikon you see.

A good redfield would be great. They have good glass and are very reasonably priced.
I own a $200 Nikon that I dont like at all.

Midway advertised the viper hs 4-16x50 for 250 shipped in the mail. Got the flier today. The picture was actually the hs lr. Huge steal for 250; unfortunately, I couldn’t find it on the site.

I’ve always been happy with Leupold products.
Leupold in that range.

I hunted with the Burris Fullfield II 3-9x40 on my .30-06 for 15+ years. It’s a great entry level scope you can get for under $200
Upgraded last season to the Vortex Razor HD LH 3-15x42

Vortex makes a fine scope. I own six of them. No issues. I used to buy Nikon. When my house flooded the only scopes that got water in them were the Nikons. No other brand got water in them. Therefore, I don’t buy them anymore.
