Whatever you look at try not to get the lightest option. The recoil will be much more.
Yep full size handguns tend to be easier to shoot for smaller people. Of course you need one that they can grip correctly.

Took longer than I expected for someone to try to convince OP that revolvers are useless and if you don’t have 80 rounds then you might as well be unarmed bc robbers aren’t bothered by gunfire if it’s from a revolver.

I’d take the revolver, absolutely

Depending on her hand size, a 357 revolver loaded with 38 doesn’t kick or twist at all, and will stop whatever she needs to stop.

I don’t see why 38spl would have more recoil than 9mm. They’re pretty comparable.
You might want to set a 9mm and a .38sp round next to each other.
There is a significant difference in the powder charge between those two rounds.
Weight and barrel length being equal, the .38sp is going to have more recoil than the 9mm.

Small revolvers kick like a mule. I would get something with some weight to it or a semi auto. Semis point amd shoot same as a revolver.
Part of the issue is the grip is to big.

I agree with gptigers:
S&W M&P 380EZ
or
P365 .380
My 365 .380 did take some break in, but I looked at it as getting familiar with the pistol.

What model revolver does she already have? You might be able to get another set of grips that fit her hand better. Full size 38 Specials have soft recoil and are simple to use. There is no need to get a smaller gun with more recoil for a nightstand.
ETA: She most likely has a K frame. Magna stock grips work great for small hands.

I am thinking that was the type of grip on it before I replaced it with one I like. This was before I started buying 9mm handguns. I keep this on my nightstand instead of my 9mm's. She considers this her gun being it came from her Dad before he passed away. I wanted it where I can grab it if I needed it in a hurry in the middle of the night.

Highly recommend that she shoot something first
38, 357 will have too much kick
.32 is good choice or even a 9mm if she can learn the mechanics of it.

What's your definition of "Old People"?

Any suggestions
Take her with you and let her shoot. Let her pick something out. Something she is comfortable and proficient with is better than anything just given to her with out her input.
That's if she even wants a gun. She may just be coming up with excuses not to not like the guns given to her by her dad and husband.

This is one that I am looking at, but she cannot hold it without buying it.

This is what I have for my wife. The 642 grip is too small and she liked the bigger rubber grip on the ruger. I bought the .357 model and have it loaded with +P Gold Dots.

So, in your world, a 9mm has that much less recoil than a 38? A 380 would have less recoil, and they are much easier to find ammo for than a 32.
