I've had the porcelain coated cast iron since I bought it.

There is some rust starting and I'm wondering if I should go stainless. Does stainless stick?

No complaints with cast iron other that the rust after 5 years or so.

Stainless. I bought the expensive cast iron and it rusts even trying to keep it oiled.

"Some" rust is not a concern, but stainless is buy once and forget about it. My Weber is the special edition that has stainless grates and flavorizer bars. Its 6 years old and no end in sight.

Stainless isn't required, especially at how much the grates are, but nice to have. IIRC, the stainless steel replacements are twice as expensive as the cast.

ETA: photo of my 6 year old grates and flavor bars that I dont take great care of. Cooked chicken tenders on it last night. I pretty much just heat and scrape with wire brush before every cook. Then I deep clean including flavor bars once or twice a year.

Call Weber , might still be under warranty (think they are up to 10 years now) but I would go stainless, I have both and when my cast iron ones bite the dust they will be replaced with ss

Depends on which Weber you have if under warranty. I have the Q320. The cast iron plates would flake rust constantly, the new ones were like $60-80. I saw some stainless plates on Amazon and had some free Amazon gift cards from work for doing some health crap. I splurged $150 on the stainless and they do stick some, but nothing I can’t spray Pam on. Works great

There’s a reason cast iron is still used and that’s because it holds the best better due to the weight and density or whatever of the metal. Stainless will not give you the same grill marks you can get with cast iron.

I have the non coated cast iron grates on my newer genesis, I much prefer it over the stainless on my older genesis for doing steaks. Anything else, doesn't really matter either way. I don't get rust on my grates.... I don't know what yall are doing to them.

I don't agree. In fact, "stainless" grill grates are usually a base of cast iron wrapped in a sheet of stainless.
