Found some really cool remote spots in the mountains playing around on Google Earth. Any ideas about these locations? Homes, Outfitters, Cabins?

I could really enjoy spending some time in a location like these.

That first location looks awesome. surrounded by mountains and forest, and has a stream rolling through the front yard. would be an epic fire and whiskey drinking spot

Yep those are USFS cabins.

I have an older friend who was a Fed USFS investigator. He used to spend 2 months every Fall alone in one of these cabins every year in Alaska. Rest of his time was spent in Louisiana investigating waterfowl hunters.

He'd fly the area in his float plane observing big game hunters. He has some very cool stories from Alaska and LA.

He has busted some very big name people (pretty funny stuff, pretty much any big LA government name, or well known LA family from the 80's he has busted baiting ducks).

Why would a US Forest Service Inspector be investigating waterfowl hunters? Looking for those guys shooting over the woody limit? Lol!

See Alaska; there are many places there that no one has ever stepped foot on

I don't see the R. You talking about the cabin(s) or the airstrip?

Seems to be Forestry places. Hiking trails are in the area as well.

Forestry Station

quote:

A nice creekside walk along Tom and Long Prairie Creeks lead to a large burn area around Goat Creek. The section from here to Moose Ridge is heavily affected by fire and trail tread can be hard to follow. Once gaining the ridge though, a nice trail leads all the way to the Historic Moose Creek Ranger Station and airstrip.

quote:

Moose Creek Ranger Station is an active backcountry crossroads located at the confluence of Moose Creek and the Selway River. Here you are likely to find rangers, trail crews, rafters, horsepackers, and pilots all converged in the roadless wilderness.

Thanks Cotton. I see it now. I was looking directly around the 2 building sites and points South (towards the strip).

I need to see if Moose Creek USFS Airport is in the Flight Simulator X database...might be a fun landing.

Definitely see some beautiful places doing that. Just gotta find that friend who has their Private/Instrument and access to a plane...or go get licensed yourself (on my bucket list).
