True gun novice here...but I have decided to purchase a gun for personal protection as I have been receiving treats on my life (domestic situation). I was told a Glock 17 would be an excellent choice for me because it's easy to maintain and all around solid firearm. Where do yall recommend looking for a decently priced Glock 17?

Check your local Academy Sports stores. They list their inventory online. They get shipments quite often. Check out the Glock 19 and 45 as well. They are comparable to the 17 and are better than no gun at all.

ETA: If you're actually in Hawaii this is probably of no help to you.

What state/area are you located?
Best bet is to find a local gun store since a lot of them are now only selling ammo if you also purchase a gun.

Please go to a range and have someone show you how to use it. It's not uncommon for new handgun owners to hurt themselves due to improper grip (fingers behind slide when shooting). I recommend FRC because their staff is extremely helpful.

I second that. If you can find any ammo for it. That'll be the hard part.

Definitely this. It doesn’t really matter who you get it from- Academy, Bowie’s, Jim’s, Hebert’s, Cabellas, etc.

Just make sure whoever you buy from will sell you at least one box of FMJ for the range(minimum 50 count) and one box of defensive rounds.

Go to the range and ask for help. They will be happy too.

Lafayette Shooters has the classic Glock 17. Think it's about 650.
