I cleaned up my brother's old Winchester model 77 and removed the old school Weaver that was on it. What would be a decent mount/scope combo on the cheap to replace it with?

Not mine but same gun:

Nikon 3-4 x 30 ($150) or just the 4x30 fixed ($110). Cabela's, Bass Pro, Academy - they all keep those in stock

Not bad. May try to find it even cheaper.

Leupold VX3 4.5-14X40mm.
Overkill? Nay, nay says I. When you're trying to tell the difference between a knot and a squirrels head you'll appreciate the magnification and clarity.

Congrats, beHop on the "new" gun, beHop. It's just my personal preference, but on a classic gun like that I'd lean toward a smaller scope like a straight 4X or a small 2-7X. For a rimfire, any number of brands should work fine, but I'd avoid Barska, Centerpoint, lower end BSA, etc. Check for big name factory refurb scopes at Natchez Shooters Supply

Weaver makes a rimfire scope that I've put on my last two rimfire rifles. The glass on it is amazing. Might check into it as well. Can't remember what I paid for it.

Thanks

Kill Switch:

Had a Weaver grand slam on a rifle that got stolen and absolutely loved it. Better than my Monarch for sure.

If specifically fir squirrels I would shy away from a fixed 4x.
My squirrel rifle wears a 2-7x33 redfield.
A bit more magnafication is nice for sniping tree rats when they are high up there.

I put a BSA Sweet22 on my .22 rifle. Got it for about $75 and it's been great. It has turrets for each grain .22 bullet. Just my .02

I've been looking at all kinds of glass the last two days. Thinking I might just get a new scope for my 7-08, maybe a VXR, sell the leupold European I've got on it now or throw it on the 22.
