Curious if anyone here's a fan or rc helicopters as a hobby.
I inherited a bunch of things for them and was looking to get some help with an idea of what I have.
Thanks

all i know is they are hard to fly. And Quads have taken most of their market share.

That's what I've seen when watching them being flown.
Very tricky. I saw a very good pilot put one into a tailgate of a Jeep.
Quads almost seem to fly themselves.

It's very strange to me that this is the case, because RC heli's could do almost anything a quad could do (besides like trick flips) as long as they were equipped with the same sensors and piloting software.
Imagine if you had to control 4 motors independently to fly a quad... would be impossible. all software taking your controller inputs and making it happen. (along with gyroscopic and g-sensors to help it maintain orientation)

The learning curve is quite steep, but there are step levels you can take to work your way up. You start with coaxial rotor (two main rotor blades) where you don't have to worry about torque. Fixed pitch is the next step, then collective pitch. It truely is a "hobby" that takes dedication of time, energy, and money.
I was fixed wing RC guy for several years and my roommate a rotor RC guy. I could never "enjoy the challenge" of learning so I gave up rotor RC. If it tells you anything, you can learn to fly a real helicopter and get a real rotorcraft pilot's license in less time it takes to get proficient with a RC helicopter.
That being said, I'd reach out to a local club where you will always find help for beginners. You didn't list your location. In BTR there is Red Stick RC Club that flies at Farr Model Airpark on River Road. I'm not sure if they allow rotorcraft or not. Your second place to visit would be a local hobby shop, but you have to be careful as some want to sell you something more than help you. Hobby Towne in BTR is a good one.

That's kind of my point. Why aren't they?

I got a drone from my Marlboro rewards points (yea I know, trashy) and tried to fly it and it ended up stuck upside on the roof of my shop.
So no RC copter for me

If you are in Baton Rouge go to Hobby Town and buy Real Flight software and learn to fly. All of the above mentioned clubs are great and you should check them out. But, learning to fly with real flight will save you both heartache and money.

post pics of what you have. been flying Rc helis and fixed wing since i was kid. Chances are high any other enthusiasts can help you with what you have . If your looking to start flying its best you get a simulator and USB TX for your computer and learn that way. Otherwise it gets expensive repairing while learning.

USB Tranmitter
Free Software for the Simulator (you can purchase addon models)
Real flight and all that shite is really great, graphics are top notch but if your looking to learn on a budget this will help a lot. the software comes stock with trainers for both fixed wing and helis.

Wow, love the talk and feedback.
I'm actually attempting to part ways with all that I've been given.
So much stuff both small and large.
If anyone knows anyone looking for parts and stuff let me know!
Hope everyone's having a good start to their week!

Sorry. It appears you have never flown a helicopter. They all have gyros (copters and quads). But on a helicopter it makes it slightly easier to control the boom. But there is still skill involved.
I had several for years. Helicopters are way harder to fly than a drone (quad). I can take a quad and be flying in 30 seconds. A copter you need to practice in very specific steps with a lot of room. Practice hovering first and then work your way into forward flight. Then when its coming towards you you have to change perspectives to control direction. It's challenging but pretty fun. I never got into the.3D tricks that seem to be all the rage these days.

Any chance these are gas or glow heli's? I hate how everything has gone electric these days. Miss the good ole RC days.

All of the RC Helicopters I am familiar with have gyro stabilization systems.

Where are you located? If you are in Baton Rouge head over to Redstick RC at Farr Park on a weekend, bring some of your stuff and I’m sure someone there could give you some guidance. If you are looking to sell it Hobbytowne on Airline is hosting a swap meet on April 9th that usually draws a big crowd.

They're def not electric. Gas I'd assume
Even have a brand new engine packaged up.
Alot of nice stuff

Nitro fuel is made of methanol, nitromethane, and oil
