Glad he gave me a bit of warning before I stepped up on the tractor. He blocked my access to my tools (shovel, hoe, slingblade) so he chose death by firing squad.

Thought about TigrrrrDad as I used my shovel to throw him out of the barn even after cutting off his head and 10 rattles. I saw about 100 imaginary snakes the rest of the day.

Watch your feet fellows.

I had a rattlesnake staring at me on the shelf of my shed last week. Actually was a rat snake and not a rattler but for the first 0.3244836 seconds every snake is a rattlesnake.

This one was sunbathing on the
CR I live on. I gave him a good
3 minutes of contemplation
As I’ve never seen a Timber rattler
where I live and thought…
What a beauty… time to die.
I have hunting dogs and the neighbors
across the street have little kids.
His life doesn’t mean more than
their safety to me.

I’ll allow it.

While relocation is my personal choice, inexperienced people who try to relocate venomous snakes are just asking to get bit.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think August and September are the months that canebrakes are most commonly encountered.

At least it seems that way to me. Breeding season, I presume.

I am far from a snake handler.
And I did not feel that was a safe
choice for me. I do still feel bad.
It was a beautiful snake.

We've had an unusually high number of encounters with Canebrakes on our farm this year for some reason. Very odd. I think has something to do with the katydids.

Neighbor had this one beside her pool fence next door to me. I honestly did not think about there being rattle snakes in our neighborhood. We have walking trails through the woods and around the subdivision that i walk/jog 5 days a week. I have my head on a swivel now.

That’ll ruin your day…..
August through October rattlesnakes give birth to live young……. Keep an out for those little ones. They can be feisty.

Haven't lived in WS in decades. This was in Winn Parish. I live in West Monroe.

I went to LSU and then Wake Forest which explains my username. I'm not an actual deacon of a church.

Heading to South Florida this Saturday for a week. Hoping to find a BIG Eastern Diamondback around Big Cypress to match the monster WDB I got in Texas.

Buddy sent me this picture of one on his driveway in Southern Tennessee. Looks like it has just swallowed a baby deer.
