1-2 times a year, eh? Well that’s definitely worth getting a $75k truck

Yeah I know, I only tow my camper when a hurricane is heading to Grand Isle. I do tow my tractor a few times a year and a 20' enclosed trailer. I'm still not convinced I'm getting a 3/4 ton but I hate looking for a buddy when I have to evacuate the island.

I have a friend who just bought a 21 Ram 2500 and it's sexy and comfortable. I'm just worried about long term issues with Dodge/Ram his is only a month old so not enough input yet.

Seems like used truck prices have been coming down. I bought a 2017 F-250 lariat with 47k miles earlier this week for $50k. I like it a lot so far.

Other thing to consider is that Ram did not update the 2500/3500 cab when they updated the 1500’s cab. I just traded my Ram 2500 to get in a new F150, and the rear seat area is noticeably larger than the Ram. Also, I don’t think you can get the HO Cummins in the 2500, or they are hard to find as the HO Cummins is only paired with the Aisin transmission.

I’d also say if you are dead set on a diesel to get a 3500 SRW. If you look at most of these trucks pulling large 5th wheels in a 3/4 ton they are over their payload capacity due to the weight of the Diesel engine. If I were buying a new HD truck right now, with the complexity of these new diesels and the fact it is getting harder and more expensive to delete them, a 7.3 Ford would be my go to.

I posted this back in September when someone asked about Dodges. I just bought another F-250 a few months back.

Previous post:

I had a 2019 Limited 2500 diesel.

previous:
2001 F-150
2007 Ram 2500 diesel
2012 F-350 Lariat SRW diesel
2015 F-250 King Ranch DIesel
2017 F-250 King Ranch Diesel
2018 F-250 Lariat Diesel
going to purchase another F-250 in coming weeks

Interior is nice, big screen is cool stereo sounds good, but several drawbacks vs Ford.
-Crew cab space without going to mega cab is way smaller in back seat. put a car seat back there and you're having to move front seats for space
-one of the front turn signals would randomly not work
-quirks with big screen computer would randomly (once every few weeks) not work right, freezing etc
-chrysler bluetooth sucks, if you want to switch back and forth with hand held its always a cluster
-way less power than F-250 and its not even close
-more engine noise
-tranny/traction control system give dead pedal feel, stomp on it and nothing happens
-coil springs are great until you tow heavy, big trailer/heavy boat on a bridge like i55 through manchac is total misery, you can't speed up and slow down to get rid of the oscillation like you can with leaf springs.
-door hinge noise started around 10,000 miles, pretty pitiful for a truck with $82k sticker

I would never spend my own money on a Ram, 2007 wasn't great quality and for the price I wasn't impressed with this one either. It was a co. truck, will be buying another F-250 in short order. F-250 has always held value well for me too.

Which is a shame because the cummins has a whole lot of nuts to spare. The truck has it so ridiculously choked back that it's a complete turd to drive compared to the Ford.

The inline 6 will never compete with either v8 diesel power wise, it shows its face towing with torque

Don't get a F-250 with a diesel engine. I did not realize that when I went from a F-350 DRW to a F-250 that the payload capacity was so low (almost F-150 low). Mine has a 2080 lb capacity and the headlights shine in the air with that. Get F-350 SRW minimum if you are going to use it.

I absolutely love my 03 cummins with the manual 6spd. It does everything I ask of it and has plenty left over. The truck will last for ever imo, at least as long as I live as long as I take care of it and replace the things as they break. It just lacks big time in amenities compared to my old chevy I miss that trucks interior so much.

Best trucks imo are
99-00 7.3 manual I include an auto excursion also.
03/04 5.9 manual 6spd
06/07 6.6 with 6spd Allison
05/06 6.6 with 5spd

Anything newer had so much bs emmissions it comes out your engine and it will not last like they should.

If money was no option I would put a 6spd Allison on a 03 cummins in a ford or chevy lmfao or do one of those suburban, cummins, Allison transmission swaps that they do for security forces and contractors with the duramax.

I'll never buy one of these newer trucks.

It can be had from the factory with 550 hp. It can certainly hang. Its just very neutered by the ram driveline.

Traded my 2017 Ram 2500 for new one about 6 months ago. Both great trucks the newest one is really quite for a diesel
Only issue I had with 2017 was sensors on the damn emission system otherwise great truck

Ram 6.4L Hemi's have the same issue with lifters locking up and eroding cam lobes that the 5.7's do. So if gasser 3/4-ton is one of your options then buyer beware there.

I have an 18 DRW 3500 Laramie with factory air bags, love it.

No issues so far, plenty of power pulling my 38' fifth wheel.

Had a 07 3500 previously thst was traded in for the 18. Guy not far from me bought it and is still using it today towing cattle and farm equipment.

Truck only saw the shop twice for recalls in the years I had it.

Dodge has come a long way in their heavy duty trucks. Do thry still have issues and duds. Yep just as many as Ford, Chevy and GMC.

Ultimately get what you like and feels good to you.
