I'm upgrading from bay boat to center console and I bank with a national bank that doesn't really do loans on recreational stuff. Any recommendations for a local bank on the Northshore or Nola area that specializes in these type loans? Or is online like Lightstream the way to go? Credit score is excellent, looking to borrow about 35k.

Check out Keesler Credit Union. I went through USAA if you are eligible.

If you need to take out a loan to buy a boat…then you don’t need a boat.

I'd go with Lightstream, they put the money in my account within 72 hours and the rates were better than my bank offered.

How often do you plan on taking the boat out?

Remember if it floats, flies, or fricks, it’s cheaper to rent.

So only folks with 70K laying around should own a boat?

Nobody said that. You might not be able to afford the boat you want.

Idk why people always say owning a boat is a financial mistake. We just sold ours for $50k more than we had in it.

If you do it right you can make money and not lose money by owning one.

Yep, or buy something more affordable. Why do you feel entitled to have something you can’t afford?

Are you trolling or serious right now? Why do you feel entitled to tell other grown men how to spend their money? You seriously gonna sit here and tell grown men what they can and can't afford without having any idea what their finances look like? I posted the question here and not the money board to avoid dumbass financial advice from people like you. Carry your arse back to the Dave Ramsey conference.
