.308 or .30-06

They don't make them in 6.5x55 anymore

BarD brought up a good point. Don't skimp on the scope chicken! You can get a good scope for $200, You can get a great one for $500, and you can completely destroy your bank account on some hellacious rangfinding night vision autopilot bluetooth thing.

A win M70 featherweight in .30-06 with a leupold VX-III sitting on top is the ULTIMATE deer rifle. Everybody else is wrong.

You might be over analyzing this for your first rifle. Just saying
maybe so...I like learning about the different features.

Truth except for the scope, I'd go Nikon monarch 4x16x50

Not much difference with modern powder.

I have one and I can't wait to swap it out for a leupold. It isn't worth a shite compared to my $200 leupolds.

Downshift, KingRanch I hate to burst yalls bubbles, I like and respect the model 70, but Big Green surpassed them in '64.

As far as scopes go I will be a Leupold guy until I die, or production moves overseas.
And why put a 50mm scope on a Featherweight rifle.
