psa: keeping feet warm

After reading the how to keep your feet warm thread, I was able to test a number of suggestions over the last week. The one that worked best for my sweaty feet was a pair of Nike dry fit socks on first, then a toe warmer then a pair of genius socks. Even when I forgot the toe warmer one morning my feet were not cold until the end of the flooded timber hunt in 30° weather. This set up is the only one that was able to keep my feet from turning into ice cubes as soon as I get to the honey hole/deer stand. Thanks ob!

Deer stand, for me, muck boots with cotton socks for above freezing, muck boots with wool socks when it's below freezing when I get out there, and anything above mid 40's they're too damn hot

I would not use the toe warmers when it's above 40. The dry fit socks really kept my feet dry. That's my main problem...sweaty feet. They kept my feet dry even on Saturday when it was 75° in the deer stand.

I actually wear dress socks sometimes when it's warmer, but not warm enough to wear uninsulated rubber boots. It helps. Especially with hips boots when stalking through the swamp when it's warmer.
I'm discovering that I need some gear for the upper 30's to 50's. My warm stuff is good for 20's-30's and my light stuff is only good for early bow season or those freak high of 70 degree days like we had this weekend.

Incest sex sweat... Might wanna burn em and cleanse your feet
edit: after a derp post googled bama socks and realized these were not bama "crimson tide" socks.. Thought you had some lucky gump socks that you wore for superstitious reasons

I'll have to check out the bama socks if my dry fits don't work for whatever reason. Boats, try the dry fits. They really kept my feet dry even on the hot days this weekend. It was magical! Haha

I have to use toe warmers when it is cold. No sock / boot combo will work otherwise.

Muck Boot Arctic Pro with Under Armour's Cold Gear hunting socks FTW.

I have found no combination of socks/boots that keep my feet warm. I did break down and try the Thermacell heated inserts over six days hunting in Illinois last week with lows of 0 and highs of 18 in a snow and when my feet got cold powered up the inserts and they flat out worked. Was able to sit all day with my feet staying pretty comfortable. I give them two thumbs up but they are $$$.

I honestly can't remember a single time in my life when I hunted in cold weather and my damn toes did't get freezing cold...I am kind of interested in trying some new stuff now...

how did yall do? my buddies got blanked in Kansas.

We did well. My buddy killed a 10 pt pretty nice 22" outside spread about 20" inside. I killed a doe and passed on several shooters as I had an encounter with a 200" plus buck and decided it was him or nothing got close but never could close the deal. We really had a good time and our farm is really producing nice deer right now.

Seriously. Muck Woody Elite with wool socks and my bibs and all tucked into them has been enough for high 20's - low 30's. I never really hunt in colder than that. My feet don't get cold anymore. Maybe by 10AM I can feel a little chill, but that stinging numbness that makes you get down from the stand early to go stick your feet by the stove at the camp just doesn't happen anymore. Those things are money.
And I'm a cold natured person.

I haven't been deer hunting in 30+ years but I do recall how we used to keep our feet warm. We would put on cotton athletic socks, then bread bags, followed by wool socks. Kept our feet warm and dry.

I use dry fit socks with a pair of wool socks on top followed by insulated boots, pretty basic. But the biggest thing that I have found is that you have to keep your head/neck warm. I know, sounds crazy, but your body will spend more effort keeping your head warm at the expense of your hands and feet.

Burleys - light dress sock, covered by wool sock. Key is still having a little wiggle room in the boots. If the fit is tight with heavy socks your feet will get cold quickly. Also when you get to the stand or wherever your hunting untuck your pants..

Merino Wool socks. If its in the 20's or lower I add toe warmers. Make sure the boots arent too tight.
