Is this okay? I need to seriously cut it back but wanting to make sure I don't keep it from growing well.

If so, do you cut the branches at an angle?

I used a sawzall on a few of mine. They were hanging low and I kept hitting them while I mowed. I cut them at the base of the branch.

Sawzall sounds like a good plan

It's either prune or transplant or cut down.

You cannot kill a crepe myrtle with a saw. Ever. Even if you want to. It comes back like Michael Myers.

LSU ag says when pruning ya wanna make a clean cut. Prune feb to early march and never cut off more than a third of the tree.

Now freeze damage like with our citrus ya wait till the tree is well established leafed out and growing and cut dead off right above the last green branch.

Don't "top it off"--will look like crap when leafing out and blooming. Prune selective branches. If the problem is the tree is too tall for this site, replace it with shorter shrub/tree.

Was gonna say, prune about 1-1/2” above the roots. Hate those fricking trees.

Too bad the energy company doesn't think like you!!!

My grandmother planted some crepe myrtles in rows 70+ years ago, predating the power lines. The brilliant minds with the power company topped a row when they upgraded lines for a water pump installation on the lake a mile away at the start of this year. The 70+ year old trees were "possibly" at their maximum height by this point and had never caused a problem with the lines before.

Oh well, those trees will be alive long after those idiots are not just worm food but worm poop.
