Moving into a new construction and due to time and job constraints I won’t be able to build my own fence since I can’t touch the property til we close. I’ve put in for a few quotes but only received one back so far.

Fence must be a 6 ft shadow box style. The yard is approximately 255ft, four corners, with one 4 ft gate. The quote I received was 17.50 a foot.

Sorry after posting I searched and realized this had been asked a lot.

Seems 17.50 isn’t unreasonable. Looks like I’m gonna have to figure out how to get this done myself.

Y rah I'm not familiar with shadow box style but as you may seen in past posts, standard 6 ft fence runs about $15ft. Seems like the extra trouble/materials for shadow box plus gate you got a good price. Fyi, with fencing, a good rule of thumb is half the quoted cost is going to materials.

Not to hijack, but does anyone know if fencing materials, such as individual pickets, ever go on sale at HD/Lowe's?

They do every year around the Spring. I think a standard picket runs 1.70 right now and last Spring Stines had them on sale for 1.39. Thats just an example. I'm sure the other box stores would have similar sales. I'd try and get a discount coupon too if at HD/Lowes. Also, buy 5% more than you need and take the shitty ones back for refund.

That's the only fencing material I've seen go on sale. 2x boards never go on sale as there isn't much markup in the first place.

Gotcha thanks. I suppose it's worth the wait if I'm buying a ton. One of my fence lines is rotting badly and it's an issue with my dogs breaking fence boards and getting out. Need a temporary solution to keep them in until I can meet with my neighbor about replacing the whole thing

Lowe's used to price match. Not sure if they still do or not and I don't know if HD does.

When I built my fence, I called around and got the best price at different lumber yards. I opened a Lowe's credit card account and got 10% off my total purchase. I used the price match which was 10% below the lowest price I could find for them to match.

It took a little legwork, but I saved a chunk of money on materials.

Get someone to help and you should be able to put it up in a couple weekends. Lay it out, set posts, and hand 2x4 runners one weekend. Then hang pickets and build gates the next. With the right tools such as an auger and nail gun, along with someone to help at least getting the posts set, you should be able do 250 ft in a couple weekends. Search the other threads and you’ll find some good advice on what to do and not to do. YouTube can be helpful too.

With you and another guy, you should be able to set all post, brackets, and rails in one day. That’s if you use an auger. Get the two man post hole digger, much quicker than the two man.

You should be able to picket 250ft in one day.
