Power Poles slapping around, that just something you 'deal with'?

Went on a ride in a new bay boat the other day and the poles made a ton of racket. We were going to run some bouys for triple tail but it was a bit too rough, more importantly too wet. Just curious if poles slapping around back there is normal for a $150k bay boat? Nothing appeared mechanically wrong with them and my BIL thought it was curious.

Seriously fine boat, but damn you'd think a bit of chop wouldn't be shite for a 27 footer. I guess this hull is made for calmer days. I love that even at 27' it doesn't have a T top.

ETA: They seemed lighter in structure than I've previously seen and these were mounted to jack plate and not the hull.

Never had an issue with it slapping around. Maybe he has a hydraulic issue? I don't have the Blade though.

The 10' blades require a brace to be added to Jackplate mount. My buddy has one with the brace and it moves as much as my 8' one. No issues with his. Power pole recommends the braces on the 10' poles.

That boat was wet !? And didn't handle well? Surprised

Are most going to the jack plate mounting now? Makes for longer brackets, but they seemed beefy.

i have 2 10 foot blades

every couple months i tighten all of the bolts that are on the mount (4 each pole at the base) and about 5 or so that are up and down on the powerpole itself

mine aren't screwed into the transom so those brackets that bolt to the jack plate tend to loosen a bit

but even when I've tightened them they do still move a bit

Mines mounted to the Jackplate, no issues and the plate is very beefy. Most boats have them mounted to the plate now

The wind was blowing in an unfortunate direction for running bouys, they're most parallel with the shore and the wind was directly onto it.

It's all slop where I live. The boat probably would be awesome for normal swells, but in BSL when it's shitty...it's shitty.

Yep, SERIOUS electronics on it too. Should have waited until we fired it all up for the picture since damn it was nice.

I don't know if this is the problem or not, but if you don't keep the bolts tight it will ream out the aluminum frame from vibration. Had it happen on mine but power pole warrantied it.

I see there's a Mercury on the back. Take power pole off, the merc will be a good enough anchor.

But in all seriousness, we put a Velcro strap around ours when trailoring/running. I'll have to snag a pic, but the middle of the strap is screwed into the shell so it stays in place. Just undo the Velcro to let it down.

That's something that needs to happen. Take a photo of you can.

Nice looking boat.

I have a powerpole also. Keep an eye on the bolts, and if it's like a powerpole (brand), there are nylon/teflon? bushings that will wear out. Replace them when they do!

PP warrantied mine also, which is really way beyond their obligation.

The velcro strap seems like a really good idea. Those poles take a beating going down the highway, and in the chop. We've used a bungy cord to help, but velcro sounds better.

The pic makes them look different from each other. Is one a PowerPole and one a Blade/MinnKota?

If so, it'd be interesting to hear your opinion of both down the road.

I'll get a pic this weekend. Very easy and looks clean.

We used bungy cord for a while, but Velcro is way better.

Didn't like it flapping around all the time

Found this pic on my phone. You can kind of see how it works (it's not velcroed at the time of pict).

It holds up very well though. Used fairly strong Velcro and had my mom sew it to the strap. I'd imagine you could get one made fairly cheap at an upholstery shop or something.

They're kind of angled, at least the decals are...they're Power Poles.

Not my boat.

I'll try not to hijack too bad, but I just got a Minn Kota Talon and was curious where I should install it. Off the transom or buy the bracket and mount off the jackpkate? I feel like it would hold the boat better closer to the hull than further back. I also feel like you would have more support with it mounted to the transom. Am I right or should I go the bracket route?

I wouldn't have any idea, but in general I would drill as few holes in my boat as possible, especially in the transom. I agree though, it does seem more solid.
