I have just an ipilot and I want a power pole. The spot lock is incredible but can really cause some commotion in shallow water. If I could only have one it would be the ipilot. Stick it pins and Cajun anchors are easier to deal with than the anchors that would hold me still in 20’ of water.

I had both on my last boat. The new boat just has I pilot. The marsh I fish is so soft that the power poles were useless in water over 5 ft. I'd start with a trolling motor then add a power pole or 2 if you feel like it..

GPS trolling motor then add PP later. I’m lucky enough to have both so that’s my suggestion.

I have a saltwater Ultrexx that has auto deploy/stow and a 10’ PP. hard to describe what a game changers these are for ease of fishing. I often fish solo or with my wife and daughter. Being able to deploy, steer, trim, GPS lock, and stow from anywhere in the boat is unreal. I no longer have to walk from front to back or ask them to do things cause I can control the TM and PP from anywhere in the boat.

I also think the Ease of the PP has allowed me to fish more spots, meaning I’m much more open to moving from spot to spot to find where they are biting. Feel I used to linger in places that weren’t really producing cause of the time/hassle of picking up an anchor etc.

Yes I know I’m really spoiled but the have really been the best additions to my rig.

I have a 24v terrova. The ultra isnt worth the extra money IMO. Self deploy is nice but I think it's as much of a liability as a convenience. I've seen them act up.

Fished hopedale today in a ton of wind. Troll till you catch one without touching the trolling motor. Hit the anchor button when you catch one. No single device has improved my fishing experience as much as an I pilot. If I had to pick between that and every other electronic in my boat, I'd keep the trolling motor and take everything else out.

I’ve used it 3x so far and it’s absolutely worth every penny... I was coming from a half broken 24v motor guide, so of coarse it’s a yuge upgrade, but it makes the entire process so much easier.

The spot lock, cruise control, and ipilot mode are all super easy to use and worked like a champ. You can set your speed at whatever you like... 1 mph or so... then turn i-Pilot on and it’ll keep you steering in that direction, correcting for wind and current. Clutch for beating the banks or going over reefs.

I ordered from Russell marine and would absolutely recommend them. They beat anyone’s price by $200 or more, no tax, and overnight shipping

Just what I like to hear. I hope to get one as soon as next week. Did you do the install? I will be using the quick release bracket as well and seems like it should be pretty straight forward.

I was looking at the RAM mount as well, do you think it is a must? Dosent seem like the head of the motor has too much weight to it but dont really care for it bouncing around in too much of a chop either.

I haven’t taken full advantage of spot lock yet... hadn’t fished much open water since I bought it. But it’ll get its workout on the island this weekend.

Ram mount isnt a must. I just let mine flop, you cant hardly break the shaft on those things. I think they're carbon fiber.

Man once you figure out how to run the autopilot and spot lock you'll wonder how you ever fished without it

Its not a necessity but If im spending that kind of $$, I don’t mind spending a few more dollars to secure my shite. I trailer my boat 2-3 hours on hwy90 so that’s LOT of bouncing.

I fished a couple weeks ago in Grand Isle wind on a boat with the GPS Trolling Motor. I could not believe how cool that thing was. It held us right on spot, in wind and current. It was amazing!!

Its not the shaft breaking but the plastic head breaking off.

I put one on and now when I am towing the boat is doesn't bounce around on every bump.
