Will preface this post by saying I am off beginning of next week (Mon-Thurs), don’t really care about Mardi Gras and will be fishing. Time on the water > time not on the water.

So, with this front about to blast us in North LA, what are your best (favorite?) post front bass fishing baits, techniques?

Find a North Bank where the wind doesn't destroy the water, plus it will warm quicker.

Weightless senko worked slow through the grass, chatter bait ,slow rolled jig

Spinner bait is hard to beat this time of year and I'm not a big spinner bait guy. Drag a texas rig around instead of the usual hopping it. A smaller shad type crank bait can be deadly on river systems right now.

senko wacky rigged let it fall and sit for a few secs before even moving. However this technique is hard with north winds at 20+.

If you have good grass ripping a trap

Punching mats if you have that works in all situations.

I've also noticed that during the prespawn and spawn sometimes the fronts dont affect them as hard as far as their location. They trying to make some babies. But getting the bite is a different story

I'd try a spinnerbait to see if they're chasing. If not, weightless senko or a finesse worm.

One thing during this time of year that I used to do was Tx rig a floating lizard. I'd use about a 3/16 to 1/4 oz bullet weight. With the weight on the bottom, the lizard slowly floats up behind it. I haven't used this technique in a while. I'm gonna have to bring it back.

The biggest thing about post front fishing is you have to gauge quickly how much it's set them back. A weak dry front will barely bother them, a strong one will give them lock jaw.

Moving baits can still be effective you just may have to hit them in the head with it to get a reaction. Whether it's a spinnerbait, chatterbait, squarebill or swim jig you're gonna need to get up IN the cover and bang off of it usually to get bit. The strike zone is smaller.

I get progressively slower and smaller with the presentation until I find what they're willing to bite. I go from my typical moving stuff above, to more lazy moving stuff like paddle tail swim baits, to flipping, to finally small finesse plastics.

All the while I'm looking at depth to try to establish if they may have moved out a little deeper or up super shallow into thick cover. Not gonna be a one size fits all but if it was easy we wouldn't do it.

Not sure what the weather is gonna be like where you are but it is gonna be cold AF next week up along the TN river waterways. I expect some shad to die off. I was thinking about going and cruising the lake a little to see if i can spot any (look for birds feeding). If i find them i'm gonna throw a jerkbait, spinner and maybe a green and white senko in the area and then move towards a northern bank like someone else mentioned cause it will warm up faster. Hopefully i can take off work, kinda tough this time of year.

This

If shad are dying off a suspending jerkbait would be my go-to lure or a weightless Senko around grass (if there is some present)

Don’t go. Post-frontal bass fishing is usually a huge waste of time and money. Next week’s front is going
To be a beast, so the lockjaw will be at its most severe level.

Good info in here. I plan to just take it really slow and try to develop some sort of pattern to see what I can make of it.
So in weather like this does it pay to still make that early morning trip or is it better a little later in the morning once the sun is up?

Not really just going to cancel the trip because the fishing will be tough. I’m expecting it to be hard, just hoping to get a few in the boat.

It’s just as much fun to me to go work for three bites when it’s tough because I know I had to earn them. Those are the days you have to adapt and be willing to get outside your comfort zone. As far as early morning versus letting it warm up, you’d have to ask the fish that day, can’t catch them on the couch. Sometimes they will wait for it to warm up, sometimes the pressure will still be rising and they will bite better early.

Larto. Have never been before either. Will either fish there or maybe Black River Lake, maybe both.

Just looking to spend some time on the water.

Black river lake is super high and bad muddy from all the rain we’ve had lately. Larto is still a little high and muddy but would probably be your best bet out of those two you mentioned.

Mardi Gras parade starts at 2pm in Larto on Saturday so you might wanna plan your trip accordingly. You wont be able to launch your boat at the public launch while all that’s going on but if you got there early you could pull up and fish by the piers while the parade is going by.

I’m heading to Larto tomorrow. Looks like the water has been rising this week. Anyone know if I can get to Uncle Buds form Vick/oil field road side? Or is the crossing underwater?

Personally, I'd take a swim bait and rip it through all the grass I can find, if no grass, I'd bounce a swim jig or crank off of every bit of structure i could find... power fishing is the way to go until you find them... then figure out the depth and structure and have it with texas rigged soft plastics or wacky worms if appropriate

A day on the lake is better than a day in the office.

Again, this is always my take on it as well.

Catching is always a bonus. I’m just excited to get out on a new lake and try something a little different than shallow water marsh fishing.

Even though trip was scheduled months ago and a random cold front will blast us for the first couple days lol.

Spinner bait is hard to beat this time of year

This. Caught an 8 on a spinner in Jan of last year and a 10 on a spinner this year in Feb. Hard to beat a trusty old spinner bait
