I inherited a Winchester Model 70, with .270 WCF stamped on the barrel. The serial number shows it was manufactured in 1941.
I'm a novice, but have been reading about the "Pre 64" guns.
I also know that most of the records that Winchester had for these guns are long gone.
There seems to be different grades of this model, but nothing else is stamped on the barrel.
Calling Winchester did no good, as they said the only information they could give me would be the approximate production year.
Not looking to get rid of it since it is a family heirloom, but was wondering if anyone might have some insight to what I have.
Thanks,

Do you have Facebook? There are some pages that are dedicated to manufacturers and or models.
There are some guys on those that are a wealth of information and would be able to fill you in if google is not turning up anything.

Pre 64 Model 70 is one of the best guns you can get.

The .270 WCF is the same as a .270

WCF stands for Winchester Center Fire.

You've got a keeper there. I have my Dad's 30-06 model 70 production was December of 1949... also my birthday year & month. It's heavy gun by today's standards but my go to deer gun. It's scary accurate.

Being 1941 that obviously makes it a "pre-war", which are regarded as the most valuable. Supposedly those had higher quality or QC. And yes you got the best caliber for North America.
Hopefully no one drilled any extra holes in it or let it rust.
Please post pics so we can drool over it.

Don’t listen to these guys. That rifle is junk. Toss it. On second thought, I’ll save you the trouble. PM me your address and I’ll come pick it up and dispose of it for you.
