Me and my dad are looking into building a houseboat, and have been searching on Louisiana sportsman for the pontoons. Is there another website or place we can get pontoons? Also, whould like to have a frame or completed deck to build the metal building on. Any suggestions/tips on people who have been through this process. Thanks

I haven't ever looked into building a house boat, but I've been on a few, and some of them were just small barges. Is there a negative to doing that?

My dad is wanting to build a small house boat using pontoon and deck from party barge. I don't know how I feel about that. Pushing a big barge I would think would be a big load to push. Most I seen have old propane bullets as pontoons

Problem I had saw about houseboats is that there is always some a-hole is going to shoot one or two of the pontoons if your houseboat is set up in back waters. It is best to fill them with two part foam.

If the houseboat is going to be used in fresh water, just build the pontoons out of steel and paint them good with a epoxy paint. They will last for many years.

Correct or some asshat will burn it down for you. I have 2 cousins that had pontoon camps on Lake Des Allemands and someone burnt them down.

Best thing to do would be fill them with foam, you can shoot a hole through steel with FMJs

Last one we built we used the modular dock floats. They are foam filled Polyethylene rectangular floats. We fabbed the frame and had it hot dipped. The fabbed up a hole in center for the modad. If you plan on pushing it around a lot they aren't the way to go.

I ordered these from Harbor Ware. Foam filled dock floats. They work great.
I also built a fiberglass rake for the front for easy pushing.

Wrapped all windows, doors and did a wainscot in cedar.

Yea, still have a few things to do like the sink, but its almost done. I wanted a big front porch for cooking outside and mostly because that's where you spend most of your time.

I kept tabs on you building it twice a day going to and from work. Then got a closer look at in lake desallamands.

Very nice!
