on first build when I went to pick up wood in Lafayette, the people asked me what I was doing. Told them I was fixing to build some pee row. Guys looked at me like WTF is that till one of the older guys told them what was what.

Wannabe cajuns say pero because they don't know better and think they do. Those from actual french speaking communities, pronounce the french word correctly as pe-rogue. It's actually said to be an adaptation of a Spanish word, which is credible since it's an American term. Regardless, the g is not silent. Rogue
