I recently purchased a house and acreage for our primary home. I love the place but it has 25-30 huge pine trees around the house. Most are big enough to be telephone poles and others easily chip n saw.

Am I dreaming to think/hope someone reputable would take down these trees if I let them keep the wood?

Call around to some smaller logging operations, can’t hurt.

A buddy of mine does this around here, but I don't think they would come out for a small number of trees. My neighbor and I were both thinking of having several removed, and he said the guys they use are mostly hitting up forested areas, and don't have the equipment to remove in residential areas. You might have some luck though if none are near any buildings.

Sounds like you would be better off getting a dozer in there by the hour than by the tree and then burning.

You would be shocked at how little 30 nice trees are worth at the mill.

Location would help

Pics of trees would help

"Huge" does not equal "chip n saw" or "telephone pole" . Those are different products.

If they really are "huge" old growth pines, then you can probably get someone to take them for free and just leave the tops. If they're pole sized, then no chance.

Located in St. Francisville. Most of them are telephone pole size or bigger. The others are a bit smaller but still could be harvested.

I figured it would be a stretch. None of them are dead but still dropped plenty of debris in storm. Hopefully I can find a smaller logger or someone just starting out that will take down a few of them.

My buddy also said that they had to have a certain length and straightness for telephone and power poles, but even the shorter ones, or ones that have a straight section then a curve could be used for pilings if they didn't make the cut for poles.

But if you're just wanting them gone, like someone mentioned, a dozer will make fast work of them. They cleared a small area of pines across the street from me 3-4 years ago to make the land usable for a new neighborhood. Cleared 40 acres in a week with a dozer and some log trucks.

50' class 5 poles are fairly cheap. I don't see anyone wanting to bother with a dozen or two of those.

If they're actually big enough for 55' class B piles, maybe. There is a ridiculous shortage of those right now and it might be worth it to someone but I can't imagine they'd be able to make money off such a small amount.

Maybe you can sell the "telephone poles" for timber. A friend of mind did this on his lot in Watson a while back. Can't hurt to ask.

Might try to get in someone that saws their own lumber. I use to do that, but unable to do it now.

You can call a tree company and tell them you want to cut down the trees and are interested in selling the wood and see if they want it and call local mills.

Don't get discouraged people out there want those trees for 2x4

only down side is you maybe left grinding stumps
