Pistol – (DONE)

Just an FYI, you have to be a LEO or have your CC license to posses a pistol on the WMA. They also restrict rifles larger then .22 caliber. I have some friends that got wrote up for having an AR on the campground down there.

Another note if your planning on hunting the Delta Federal I would read the rules and regs very carefully. Da Hammer mentioned earlier that it is only open tue/thurs/sat/sunday and you can only hunt until 12pm. They also do not allow any boats with air cooled motors on the federal (the wma restricts air cooled engines to 36hp). When hunting the federal you must also have a signed permit (you can print them online or pick them up at the fed 's office in venice). I know this is the OB but I would strongly suggest you follow the rules against drinking in the blind on the federal as well (learned from experience).

I know a lot of the state enforcement guys down there and they are good fair guys who do their job well. If you decide to hunt the federal and get checked by a fed prepare to bend over because they will check everything and will write you up for any infraction they can find.

Hey, if I feel good, I would like to make the trip. Ran the Mississippi river down there a million times for offshore fishing, but never hunted it.

It's wed/thur/sat/sunday for the federal. No go devils or mud boats. No camping and make sure you don't have any lead shot even in the boat. Also, make sure you have a signed pamphlet or you can get written up for that too.

Good catch on the Wed/Thurs-Sat/Sun. I have been hunting down there since the mid 80's and I definitely know the dates but a buddy of mine who I have been taking down there for the past 2 years keeps saying it is Tues/Thurs. I corrected him during the teal season but I guess he got in my head.

Hammer,

Me and a 2 buddies were already talking about going down there from the 28th-31st. We planned on camping out on the WMA if anyone is going to be down there and wants to go for those days. I have a 22' xpress CC and towing his 16' go devil. We are avid duck hunters if you want to meet up and drink a few cold ones let us know. He used to have camp down there, but lost it during his divorce so I might pick your brain before we make our trip if that's cool. If any other OB'ers are going let me know. Be nice to meet some other guys and pop some tops.

I posted the list since a couple people were asking. That was from a few years back. That particular trip we rolled down with the 26 glacier bay and some other assorted rigs. When you are camping out on SE pass for 4 nights, it's nice to be prepared and have a list like that. Ive been doing this for quite some time and if you've never been camping that long & far from civilization, you'd understand.

There are easier and closer spots to camp and hunt but prefer SE Pass. IT's pretty amazing to have a whole section of the WMA to yourself for 5 days and never see another boat.

They will begin loading the deck barge with equipment at the Port of NO today and should be complete by Tuesday of next week. Tentatively scheduled to make it to camp site by the 28th. Mammoet has been onsite building offloading facilities Wednesday the crane assembly will begin Monday. We will have daily progress meetings at 9am until completion.
