I've seen you post on this topic before, in I believe quite a few threads. But, I couldn't find the thread I was thinking about while searching this morning. I was looking into getting my 11 yr old son a Tao DB-14 dirt bike for Christmas. We live in a neighborhood so most of his riding is going to be on the street. He's about 5'0" and 60 lbs. I was wondering your thoughts on this bike, or maybe some other suggestions. Thanks for your time. Any other's input would definitely be appreciated too.

I'd stay away from Chinese bikes and buy a used Japanese bike. You'll more than likely get your money back for it when you go to resell it and the quality is superior to the Chinese bikes I've come across.

When going chinese I like these engines: piranha, ssr, lifan, pitster pro. In that order.

If you go chinese, most of their products ship with preservative oil in them.

Fish oil 9x out of 10.

Flush it. Replace it.

Just giving it a look, that is a lifan copy. Locktite all of the important bits and realize you only have 800 bucks in it. ditch the Chinese air filter for a uni.

Got my youngest this not too long ago. Decent little bike and it has some pep. Had to readjust the fork from the factory and tighten some other things down.

The oil tank just had a casing of oil so I filled it and ran for a few hours before changing the oil.

Thanks for the feedback. I'm going to look into it a little more and if I decide to pull the trigger, make the necessary changes you suggested. I'd love to go with a Japanese built bike, but being the fact he is mainly just going to ride it up and down our one street neighborhood, it's hard for me to justify spending that kind of money.

Rando, since you're here im going to high jack thread a bit.

I have a Honda ct70 (1969 I think) that last ran about 20 years ago. Had a small fire and I put it under a carport and it's been there ever since. Hubs are locked up and it won't roll whatsoever.

Chances the engine isn't seized up? It ran well at the time but the wiring was rotten.

I'm assuming I'm going to have to replace a LOT to get this going.

Anyone have the Tractor Supply Coleman bike? Just ordered one, looks like a lot of fun.

Stay away from pocket bikes, just get a used Honda dirt bike. Far better. Hell if you want a small bike, get a CRF50 and big bore it with a trail bikes 88 kit. I use to race them at Deals Gap at the gas station. They still do on some Saturday nights during the season. They are super reliable and fun as hell.

Oh, I won't be buying a bike of any kind, but if I was a kid, and saw those at tractor supply, I would be wanting one of those for sure. I've got a good 4 wheeler and that should get me around just fine. I might get a golf cart one of these days.

There is effectively zero chance that that CT70 engine is seized. It just doesn't happen. I've actually got a few ATC 70 engines sitting on the scrap pile that I guarantee you aren't seized even though they've been open to the elements for the last 20 years.

New points new plug new fuel will probably run

I bought one of these a couple of years ago. Was fun to strap a 35 yeti to and go ride to a buddy’s to drink a few.
