It's a little close to deer season
It is deer season. It's only 40 acre piece of land, so dogs aren't an option.

Those are big mature pigs man, and lots of them. Prayers sent, follow BP's advice to a T and your deer may get a few kernels of corn by January.

Traps and dogs are your only hope.

Traps work but they get wise to them after a while. We just started fencing in all of our feeders. We still have the occasional hog trying to push the fence in but other than that, they have pretty much moved on to the neighboring properties.

Find some coonasses with dogs, they will put a dent in the population.
One thing I've heard of is catching and castrating the big dominant boars, and releasing them. The belief being that they will run the smaller males off their territory but can't breed with the sows.

Q: How do you wipe out a particular species of animal?
A: Tell a coonass it's endangered.

Unfortuntely dogs are not an option do to the small size of the property (40 acres). And traditional feeders aren't either. Looks like a suspended gravity feeder is my best bet. I just wish they would come out during daylight hours.

They do. Not very often but they do come out in daylight hours. Usually when I see them it is late in the afternoon in my food plot. I have also seen them late in the afternoon traveling bottoms.

build a pen around your feed pile to keep them out
I'm having quite an issue with them myself, but I think they are coming out right before dark. The only way to run them off is to spill pig blood, so that's my plan.

When you catch these hogs in a trap, how aggressive/mean are they towards someone who approaches the trap?

Not to hijack this thread, but where in south Louisiana are good places to hunt hogs?

I live and hunt NWLA, but know most of the WMAs in the south central and southeast areas of the state are loaded with hogs.

NWLA myself, if you need an extra trigger man let me know.

If I can get them coming out in the daytime, I will take all the trigger men I can find. I hate the stinky bastards

if you would become a real hunter and not have to throw corn on the ground, you wouldn't have to worry about this

What part of the state?

Remind me again which of us has killed a deer with a bow on a WMA up here?
