How someone treats other people (particularly those of a lower station) says a lot.

quote:
Sorry to skip around, but a few stray words about the state of American culture. Outside the capitals of the “one percent” — Manhattan, San Francisco, Boston, Washington, etc. — American material culture is in spectacular disrepair. Car culture and chain store tyranny have destroyed the physical fabric of our communities and wrecked social relations. These days, a successful Main Street is one that has a wig shop and a check-cashing office. It is sickening to see what we have become. Our popular entertainments are just what you would design to produce a programmed population of criminals and sex offenders. The spectacle of the way our people look —overfed, tattooed, pierced, clothed in the raiment of clowns — suggests an end-of-empire zeitgeist more disturbing than a Fellini movie. The fact is, it simply mirrors the way we act, our gross, barbaric collective demeanor. A walk down any airport concourse makes the Barnum & Bailey freak shows of yore look quaint. In short, the rot throughout our national life is so conspicuous that a fair assessment would be that we are a wicked people who deserve to be punished.
That, my friend, is a quote that is very very true.

I was not talking about ghetto blacks, I was talking about the blacks who dress to the nines at church.

While I am of Indian descent, I spent a great portion of my life in the UK.

I agree with almost all of the first responses.
Cheap Chinese imports have ruined style - most Sperry shoes are made in China.
We engage in too much trashy behavior.
The news media covers "who is gay," Justin Bieber, and today's racial issue of the day rather than real news.

Look at photographs from the 30's and 40's. Almost everyone was well dressed, usually wearing suits in the large cities. I've seen pictures of people in soup lines in the depression - in coat and tie. We've gone from jazz, classical, bossa nova, and blues music to Justin Bieber. Fast food has largely replace fine dining. Other than black Americans, who seem to have retained a sense of style and grace, no one dresses decently for church. A refined sense of British style would do this country some good.

Luck has proven himself in the NFL.
Jameis isn't there yet. He will not have a strong year next year.

re: Where does one find a rational look at LSU Football 2014?
Posted by mister_sportzz on 1/8/14 at 7:31 pm to JawjaTigah
No sir, I want a third party rational source. I see irrational here (like the gentleman above who suggested a 6-6 season). While I enjoy reading it, I would like one solid realistic source of information.
Where does one find a rational look at LSU Football 2014?
Posted by mister_sportzz on 1/8/14 at 7:27 pm
Is there a good article, one that is rational, about how good a team LSU will field in 2014 based upon what is now known about the team (including recruits)? All I can find are snippets, or idiotic pieces like the man who did not include LSU in the Top 25 but who did include Marshall.
I try to get as much information as I can from the Rant, but it is hard because the information tends to be fragmented.
Thank you for any suggestions.

re: Aussie Shepherd - Border Collie Mix
Posted by mister_sportzz on 1/8/14 at 6:47 pm to Oscar Kilo
My dog is probably 3-5 months away from going into heat again. I'm giving it serious thought, as I was just about ready to go get her spayed. The male border collie is a very smart dog named Gus with good herding instincts. My dog does seem to want to herd, but she does seem to want to protect her "herd." Whatever area she is in, she wants to clear it out of anything she views as hostile. She is also very quick, which is why she is proficient at killing poisonous snakes without getting bitten.

I was wondering if anyone would want the puppies. My dog is a good snaker, the border collie is a good herder.

People who break into cars are burglars and thieves, not robbers. No one was robbed.
Aussie Shepherd - Border Collie Mix
Posted by mister_sportzz on 1/8/14 at 5:30 pm
A friend wants to breed her border collie male to my Aussie Shepherd female. I don't think the end result would be that great, appearance wise. It would allow my dog's snake hunting gene to continue.
What do you think? Thank you for any replies.

re: Does wearing a bow tie make you pass gas?

I only wear Brooks Brothers tuxedos.

I can tie them, as I have five tuxedos and each has bow ties to go with it. But, the other poster may be right, as I often each rich food when I'm at a function where the bow tie is appropriate.
Does wearing a bow tie make you pass gas?
Posted by mister_sportzz on 1/8/14 at 4:28 pm
I decided to up my sense of style by acquiring a couple of authentic bow ties. However, I don't know if I tie them too tight, but whenever I wear them, I get a lot of gas and tend to flatulate.
Is there some restriction in my neck/esophagus caused by the hand tied bowtie, or is this just a coincidence?

re: Did anyone ever work as a pizza delivery driver? Any good stories?
Posted by mister_sportzz on 1/8/14 at 3:26 pm to goldennugget
I delivered pizza for two months. I had an older woman answer the door wearing nothing but panties. She shouted out when she saw me. Apparently, her pizza was always delivered by this other driver who was, for lack of a better word, a hunk. I'm not, so I was treated accordingly.
re: Dave Brubek - that's some good jazz

Kafka, in that other link, you discussed Bill Evans and the fact that he had Louisiana roots. I had a neighbor give me a collection of old jazz records, and he had quite a bit of Bill Evans on the Verve and Fantasy labels. I really like Evans' jazz (like my neighbor, I enjoy jazz piano).
