Orvis Dog Collar, Harness, and Leash

UPDATE: I called Gun Dog Supply in Mathiston today. I’ll be in Starkville anyway on Monday to watch my daughter coach a soccer game that evening, so I’m going to leave a little sooner than planned to drive over to their store. It’s about half a hour from Starkville. They were very friendly over the phone, and I’m sure I’ll get some well-made items for about half of what the cost from Orvis would be. Having my dog with me will ensure that I get the right fit. Thanks for the recommendations.
ORIGINAL POST: I’m in the market for a new collar, leash, and harness for my dog, and I am considering the Tough Trail ones from Orvis. Have any of you used them? They are pricey, but I do not mind spending the money if they are high quality.
I am currently using Arcadia Trail from PetSmart, but the leash sometimes comes unclipped (it’s a carabiner style) when my dog maneuvers around.
Things I like are a comfortable leash handle for me and comfortable and secure collar and harness for my dog.
Thanks in advance for any feedback or recommendations you have.

Gundogsupply.com and huntsmart.com have the best collars / leashes / etc.
It's all designed for coon dogs. Very high quality stuff and reasonably priced as well. Top quality customer service from both of them as well.

I stopped at Gun Dog Supply in Mathison, MS a few years ago and they recommended the Tufflex lead and collar to me. They've been great. It still looks brand new. It's a great group of folks that own the store so I buy as much of my dog supplies as possible from them. They'll talk to you for an hour if you call the store looking for advice.

The harness is around $50, and the leash and collar are around $40 each if I recall correctly.

Steve Snell and his crew are superb. Customer service, price, and shipping speed are first class!

I usually get things in two days from them.
I called up there to change something with an order and ended up talking to a feller for about 30 minutes about deer hunting. He had used to live in the area where I'd just moved and he told me all the good public spots he'd used to hunt. Like you said, supurb people.

I use GunDogSupply for all of my hunting collars, leashes, etc. For just a lightweight but high quality walk around the neighborhood type leash, I like the Amish made leather ones from Leerburg

Choke chain and US-made 6’ leather lead.
Orvis too boocoo.

I like the heavy nylon strap leashes with the regular ol snaps.
The good thing about coon dog leashes is they are really heavy duty. They also have a snap and a loop at the other end so they can be easily tied off to something without having to unsnap the dog.

I got one of these about 16 years ago for my best pal Max (German Shepherd) when he turned one year old. He wore it his entire life and was wearing it when he died in my arms a year ago in July '20. I'm at my desk in my office and I'm looking at it perched on my credenza with his ashes. I look at it every day, it's going in my casket with me cradled in my arms when I die.
A great collar for a very great dog. Love you, buddy! You were the best.

Thanks to everyone who recommended Gun Dog Supply. They have some packages that look like good quality items at reasonable prices. I also like the idea of dealing with a small, local retailer rather than a chain store.
Also, she’s not a hunting dog, but we do spend a lot of time in the woods together. I take her on 2-3 mile hikes through some wooded trails at a JUCO in my town almost daily, and she is my camping buddy. As a rescued aussiedoodle, she isn’t a hunting dog, but she loves being outdoors in nature. My girl loves nothing more than spotting a squirrel or a rabbit when we’re out on a hike. She usually catches the scent first, then hears the rustling sound, then catches sight of it and wants to just go. It’s fun to just watch her. She’s also super alert and is a great watchdog when we’re on a camping trip. I love that dog and want to get her some good stuff. Thanks for your recommendations.

Charlie prefers her leash & collar to come from Orvis…
Posted on 10/6/22 at 8:19 pm to RichJ
Charlie’s a beautiful dog, for sure!
Why the two collars for Charlie? My Lola also wears two collars—one is a Seresto, and the other is a traditional collar. However, I rigged it up so that the Seresto collar is just inside her regular collar, and I stitched it in place using embroidery floss. I am going to experiment using Velcro cable ties to do the same thing to her next collar. It appears that she is wearing only one collar because the Seresto is nestled behind the other one.

Purple collar is her Orvis every day, all day collar. Black collar is her Garmin training(shock) collar. My dad always said, “with enough electricity, you can teach a dog how to play piano”, lol

Great nutts on Charlie, he appears to be an incredible dog.

Side note. I stopped at this store with my dog once expecting a really cool experience to walk around checking stuff out. We walked in to see guys sitting in cubicles like “what’s up?!”.
Lol it’s all setup as an E Commerce shop so everything is in the back in a warehouse. Nothing to shop around in the store front.

Well, that’s a little disappointing. I was envisioning a store that just happens to do a lot of internet business as well. When I called, the lady who answered the phone acted like I was welcome to come in and browse. I explained that I like to actually see the merchandise and want to make sure it fits my dog before I buy it. I hope it all works out when I visit on Monday.

It very well could have changed since I was there last but they have a computer in the front for customers to browse their inventory. And then they can go get whatever you want in the back and bring it up front for you.
